Default Cosworth ECU monitors, monitor ECU or Sensors???

Does anyone know if an ECU monitor actually reads the ECU or does it just read the sensors??

The Secs monitor reads the sensors. You're taking the the reading off rhe the wires at the point they join the ecu so you're seeing exactly what the ecu is seeing from the sensors.

So a SECS gauge will work on which ever ECU you have fitted as long as you have original sensors?

Thats exactly the point I was getting at

I have an ECU monitor fitted where my original escos gauges were fitted but also looking at goin aftermarket ECU, I didnt really wanna sell the monitor as I havent even used it yet due to now having engine re-built, I'll lose so much money on it plus I like the idea of having one gauge istead of having 5 planted around everywhere

How did you get on with the EMU??

Still not fully mapped yet but a seriously great ECU for the price.
I've still got my SECS monitor I just assumed it wouldn't work but I might try wiring it in now to see what happens.

I went to pick up a friends sierra from Steve at A1 and he was saying how good they are.

Still very interested to know how you get on with it. Which management was you on before?

Would also be interested to know if monitor works, the map sensor may not be able to be read but sure everything else should work ok

I was on a L8 with wasted Spark before, ye the EMU has it's own built in 4 bar map sensor so I assume the SECS wont beable to read that.

In theory yes, as this is what it has been calibrated for, so it displays the respective value in relation to voltage (that is why you have to select 2 or 3 BAR MAP, for example) so as you say, it won't work with a 4 as the scale will be different.

Essentially Secs is a clever volt meter.

not necessarily. they may be a wiring or component fault in between that you wouldn't see, or something wrong with the calibration that scales something like a MAP sensor incorrectly. you will only know these things if you tap into the ECU datastream.
