Think this is phase sensor issue in the distributor.....Or the crank position sensor

If old just Replace and gap with new parts for reliability

.7 to .6 , what's cps gap like...

Wires break sometimes in phase sensor but I think the cps causes the rev counter dying issue....

Not related to counter but ive had miss fire twice on my 3 door. Once was degrading coil, other was plug gap.

Im now on 0.71's with 0.6mm gap and a group A coil. No issues. And thats T35 30psi.
