hi all im a newbie to this.
im after some help and/or advice.

I have a w reg puma 1.7 and I have lost all spark, fuel pump, and starter. iv read that the led light should flash then when you turn on the ignition the light should stay on for 3 seconds then turn off.

iv checked the fuses and relays and they are all ok.
I have a TAPE ecu and have been told that I cannot unlock it.
can anyone help. cheers in advance.

What does the PATS light do when you turn on the ignition?

Either way really will need a session on Ford IDS to diagnose/repair, maybe a key problem, or PATS reciever ring on the igniton lock.

 

it flashes like normal, when I put the key in and turn on so all the lights come on the light stops flashing.
am I right in thinking it should come on for 3 sec solid then go off?

If its a key problem the light will flash rapidly.

 

yeah I read that on the net somewhere, but cant seem to find if it not coming on for 3sec is normal or not? at the same time I cant seem to find a ecu to replace it with.

by that it would mean that as my light doesn't come on and stay on for 3-5sec my key may have lost its code?
iv tried it several times and still the same, so if my key has lost its code that would make sense.

I was driving home from the docs only 1/4 mile and turned left got to change from 2nd to 3rd gear and the car cut out. when I stopped I tried to restart the car and it just turned over. so I left it for the day and tried the next it turned over but no start for about 3/4 times then I tried again nothing. ignition lights come on sometimes the dash doesn't tell me the millage and no pump priming.
if I turn the key quickly on and off a few times the car makes a beep and the light stays on for 2sec then goes off but still the same.

On the mileage display does it show ------ ?

Had this before where there's a short on a 5v reference sensor circuit on the engine, it shuts the ECU down.

where would I check for a short 5v reference sensor circuit on the engine

 

Any sensor that has 5v feed to it.. such as throttle postion sensor, cam sensor if 3 wire, maf/tmap sensor (depends whats fitted)

On the car I had it on was a Mondeo mk1 V6 years ago.. the TPS wiring was melted against the EGR pipe.

Disconnect the throttle position sensor, then with ign on see if it has 5v on one of the terminals, if it hasn't it points to a short on the 5v reference circuit..it could be anywhere...

Really needs diagnostics doing to see if any codes to help pin it down...
