If the pump has issues, that is one possibility. Not sure if the injectors use oil pressure at all on those engines or reside where contamination might be possible

Hang on,
you just changed your OIL filter, but were draining fuel out of it? that doesnt make sense,
There should be oil in the oil filter that would be normal.

If you have made a typo and you have changed the fuel filter, and found oil in there, it would be worth looking into what is going down the return line back into the fuel tank from the engine, as you may find it is oil contaminated, either that or someone has been adding oil to the fuel at some point which would be a little odd.

I meant fuel filter sorry. When these gales have gone I will check fuel return thank you. I don't think oil is in the fuel tank. I have had the car 2years.

Well if it is in the filter, it is also in the tank. It may not have originated in the tank, but it will be in there too via the return

I know its not a vag engine but the 2.0 tdi vag engine has been known to have this problem and is caused by a Tandem Pump on the engine that is also a vaccum pump, the seals leak and let oil mix with the fuel. causing poor start/running/missfires etc etc

Just incase there is a similar pump on your engine a wee heads up.

Or just purely really shit fuel from somewhere

My old merc sprinter van had oil/diesel mixed.
The problem with it was it would over run when turned off due to burning the oil.
All the fuel lines in the engine bay are see through in them and mine were black.
Turned out to be something simple like an oil seal gone in a pump

My fuel lines are all black. I think I will get a manual and check if there are oil seals in the pump. Thanks
