Default Zetec turbo - gearbox question....

Hi all, after successfully swapping my mk6 escort van N/A engine for the intercooled turbo lump about 6 months ago, I now want more power! I have trawled through forums, pages of google etc, but cant find the answer.

I want to put a silvertop 1.8 zetec from an escort in, then turbo it.The van has an ib5 box, I want to keep it that way because I can keep the same subframe, shafts etc. Do I want a front or rear mount starter ib5? (bearing in mind there will be a turbo mounted to the exhaust manifold side) And whichever box I use, which flywheel and clutch do I use? Is it a zetec flywheel or a diesel one?

When I put the td in it had an mt75(?) originally so I had to put the flywheel and clutch from the original na diesel engine on to make it work with the van's ib5 gearbox.

I hope you can help! Cheers!

Looks a good build mate. Is that a silvertop zetec with a painted rocker cover? I want to use an 1800 silvertop from an escort so I know the mounts are the same on the drivers side and the sump etc. Did you use a zetec clutch? I know there are a few different sizes.

Also did you have to change the radiator and/or hoses? The thermostat housing looks like its in a different place to the van engine so I assume the top hose at least will be different?

Thanks very much.

Yes silver top with a painted rocker cover
I'm using a gti rad with aircon as it seemed thicker than my rs2000 and diesal one
Yep used a zetec clutch for now ,
Use the stat housing off the zetec or people do use the Cvh one

Thanks very much for the help mate. Do you know if a rear mount starter box can be used instead but still using the original driveshafts and subframe? I think rear mount starter would be better so there's more room at the front for the turbo and charge pipes etc. And if so what car to find one from?

Cheers

Can't see why it would be a prob really
Starter motor is out of the way from the Charge pipe and so on
Not sure if the rear starter would get in the way of the inlet
Depending on which one you use

OK thanks. If there's plenty of room I'd better leave it the way it is.

I use a 1.8 GTI box on my zetec turbo for now, rear starter which is a tight fit but the amount of starters I have killed on the front thru heat from the turbo, rear starter definitely the way to go
