1.6 SE Enigine Recondition
Anyone know any good places
I'm located in Kent have Contacted Euro Engines Ltd and had a quote anyone used them
Also had a quote from specialised Engines but read a post on here that said they were not good
Reason for Re-con 122,000 miles
using oil, thought to be valve seat oil seals as pulled over in lay-by with engine ticking over for 20min and when pulled of juddered and had smoke once smoke had cleared car drove fine and still does

There is a breather pipe that goes on these that causes rough running. It is at the front of the block behind the inlet manifold and runs from left to right.
Check it and also check where it terminates for perishing splits etc. before you condem the engine.
We (the Wife) had a 1998 MK1 1.6 that had done about 150k miles with no issues. It did have that breather pipe issue and was a bit doggy for a while until I changed it but after it was fine for years and many more miles.

Is it worth it though, you could pick up a good second hand one for cheaper?
Also, it is said these engines are throw away, they have a 'ladder' style crankshaft, which is impossible to get back right without the correct tooling.
