Been out of the scene for quite a while as I have been more interested in cars that don't break down lol. Having not long sold my e46 m3 I was looking for something else to keep me entertained.
Thats when I stumbled across this little black fiesta on ebay. She isn't mint by any standards but should hopefully turn out to be a decent daily driver although I won't be using it ever day.
Few pics of when I got it back to my unit.

Notice the fuse box hanging out.
This was basically because the little chavvy cunt who I bought the car off completely and utterly lied throughout the ebay listing. Luckily, I have managed to get some money back from him which will help out with the progress.
The day after I picked it up, I went for a blast up the road and it mis-fired and then cut out completely, after some frustration I managed to sort it by simply unplugging the chip and then plugging it back in.
The valve stem seals also need doing, can only assume it was warmed up enough prior to my collection so that it wasn't that evident at night.
I have already fitted a few bits that I have purchased and I also have a new headgasket kit and timing belt to go on along with the valve stem seals.
Couple of pics from today...

Plans are to get a decent suspension set up as it currently has koni's on the front and gaz coilovers on the rear. It needs to be a bit higher than it is.
Passenger door is crap and needs replacing. I have possibly found a set of green mouldings so these will be going on and I also want to get a complete set of new black silicone hoses for the engine bay.
Interior needs some tlc as the dash has a massive hole, the underlay is missing from the carpet and the door pulls have been painted black

I dont know what it is about fezza turbos but I really like them.
It is a bit low isnt it.Is there something where the fog light on rhe o/s/f fog lights should be.

Need to spend some more monies on the bay it would seem.
There is definitely something about them, to come from an M3, to a CL500 to a fiesta turbo is a very backward way of doing things, and I should have been sensible and bought something mundane as I have a little one on the way but we only live once eh.

Cheers guys. Fan WAS on that switch but that was before the previous owner. It's just there now to fill the hole, I made sure it runs up to temp and the fan kicks in as and when it should.
Always lots of potential with these, it all just depends on how much you are willing to spend. For me, not a massive amount, I just want it useable without fear of scratching the paint or leaving it somewhere overnight.
I have sorely missed the chatter though, m3 rasp is one thing, but this is something else altogether. Love it!

Mixture of ups and downs today.
Received my new timing belt from Motorsport Developments and I had already received my head kit yesterday.
After some thought i decided against fitting the full head gasket kit for the moment as all I really need are the valve stem seals, and besides, every single rs turbo I have had has cooked the gasket eventually so I might aswell hang on to it until I actually need it.

As I started with the car sitting in my unit.

Crossover pipe removed

Rocker cover removed

Noticed that the valve springs have red markings on them. Does this signify anything?
Pretty annoyed as this was as far as I got. Went out to collect some injectors for my fiesta van and turns out they were wrong. Not to worry, I was also collecting my valve spring compressor, or so I thought. Thanks allparts for cocking up the order.
Means I can't do anything until monday now so most of the weekend wasted really

Going to cheer myself up with a set of new boost hoses in black and maybe even get some parts powder coated, nothing flashy, just enough so that it looks nice but still oe.

Well, after the mucking around last weekend, I decided to spend some time on it this weekend so armed with my new valve spring compressor I set about changing them all over.
Considering I was told that they had not long been replaced they all looked very dis-coloured. Anyway, changed them over, went out for a drive and it was still exactly the same.
Fuck!
At that point I got annoyed and went home. After some advice on here and elsewhere it now seems that maybe the turbo is the culprit so back down the unit today to have a look at that.
Some oil leaking onto the actuator

Started to strip all the associated components off

Seems like oil is definitely getting past the turbo and into the exhaust judging by this little mess

Also traces of oil in the boost hoses

Check out this great bit of wiring coming off the cps

I had also noticed a knocking noise coming from the front, mainly the nearside so once I had finished taking the turbo off I decided to whip the wheels off and have a gander

Spring looks past its best and not only that, it looks far too small. Pretty sure it is doing nothing in fact. Also appears to have new drop links and lower arms but the ns droplink isn't fitted great as they bolt is loose. Some people should not pick up spanners
So as of today I have some new drop links on order, i'm looking into changing the suspension although i'm unsure what to do as the rear has coilover's so these can just be wound up. Need to have a think on that front
Also had a look underneath and i'm pleasantly surprised at how clean it is, seem's like the rustiest thing under there is the brake pipes.
Even had a look up into the sill behind the skirt and it looks fine so that's a bonus

I think I have the same konis as them...the springs are tiny but that's just how they are lol makes it a really stiff ride I got them off a track car so can only assume they are more for track use lol

So, another slap in the face from the car gods.
As mentioned previously, there was a knocking coming from the front and it just didn't feel "right"
I put this down to the fact the ns drop link wasn't attached properly and perhaps it was simply too low.
After removing the strut i thought " be cool to get the struts cleaned up and powder coated and buy some new springs.

Great idea in principal, until you compress the shock and nothing happens, nothing at all lol. Seem's like they are also fit for the bin.
Annoyed with that and with me still being undecided on what to to with the turbo I thought I may aswell have a go at spraying the exhaust manifold. The plan is to get the engine bay nice and clean whilst still being purposeful.
Don't think it came out too bad. From this..

To this...

Think the plan for the suspension is to keep the gaz coilovers on the rear and just raise them to a more suitable height and then to buy a set of standard front shocks and some lowering springs as I think it will probably be not so cost effective to get the koni's rebuilt.

So, since my last update I have managed to sort the front suspension out at least.
I really didn't want to go the expense of buying a complete new suspension set up to then have to sell something back on as the rear's are absolutely fine.
After a little hunt around I actually managed to find a guy in Milton Keynes who has seemingly broken a few fiestas.
Went up to pick up both front shocks complete with hubs and shafts. All for 60 squids, bargain.

As you can see, somebody must have got a bit carried away with the red paint.
Not overly bothered as I only want shocks and springs. The springs are spax as they are clearly marked however I am going to hazard a guess that the shocks are nothing more than standard one's that have been subjected to some yellow paint.
After a quick decision I thought I may aswell keep them yellow as that's how I got them, although they needed a fresh lick of paint so that is exactly what they got. Don't think they came out too bad.

All fitted and looking much better, and more importantly, going to drive much better too.
As for the smoking problem, I have ordered a new turbo cartridge to rebuild my own turbo. Will get it all cleaned up too so will be as good as new and should look quite smart fitted to my freshly painted manifold.
Updates to follow once it arrives.

Thank's for the kind comments guys.
As mentioned the other day, I had ordered a replacement turbo cartridge as I am more then confident taking things apart and seeing what can work where etc.
I recently rebuilt my turbo on my transit 130bhp as the turbo shaft had completely snapped in half so made up my own hybrid out of the remains of the transit one, and some mondeo parts I had. Done the job fine.
Anyways, this turned up no less than 24 hours after ordering it from Latvia, impressed to say the least.

Just had to leave the bolts from the exhaust housing to sit for a while as they are tight as hell and knowing my luck so far, they will just snap so a bath in some WD40 is required.

I also popped in to see Steve at Speedshack, nice to see he is still there in his cave of parts.
Got myself a new old stock Ramair filter, a replacement centre console with leather gator and a set of fogs for the front. Also bought a replacement tailgate sticker off of ebay, much better imo.

Will be heading down the unit today to see if i can get the turbo built up. If all goes well then I shall adjust the coilovers to bring the rear up a bit and then give it a full service.
Fingers crossed nothing shitty happens lol.

loving this thread. always wanted a fiesta rs turbo from when i was 18 and drooled over them in my local dealership and tried to persuade my dad to buy one for us, insurance was a nightmare though. still want one now, one day. green mouldings all round are a must and once its raised up a bit it will look brilliant.

nice work.. looks much better already..
do you think it will handle OK with a mix of coilovers on the back and standard shocks / lowering springs on the front ?

Thanks guys. Just got back in as it was getting a bit cold and there wasn't a great deal more I could do.
I think the handling should be fine, perhaps not as tight as if it had coil overs all round but most of the other front suspension parts have been replaced within the last few months so i'm hoping it will be ok.
Green stripes are a part of the cars character, just a shame that many, me included when I was 19 took them off and threw them away as was the era of less is more.
I decided against doing any work to the turbo, mainly because I am 99% sure that any attempt by me to crack off the 4 bolts on the exhaust housing would have resulted in 4 snapped bolts. That would have not been cool so instead I jacked up the rear, gave the coil overs a quick spray of lube and jacked the car up an inch although I reckon I may go another couple of cm.

I also gave the back box a little wipe over. Nice to see it all seems pretty rust free chassis wise

How it now sits, still think the rear could be lifted slightly more

Its going to handle like a pig having coilovers on the rear and shocks and springs at the front!
They handle bad enough as it is lol
Definately needs the Ford badge on. With it off it was making me thing the decal was in the wrong place or maybe the wrong size. Went through the pics of mine and its the exact same!!
Above all, nice turn around on the car and a nice car too
