Default 17 x 7" wheels on a saph? Widest tyres I can fit?

Any drawback with fitting 7" wide wheels on a saph?
After a long search I've finally found a set of wheels I like that are also very good quality, but they only come in 7" wide not ideal, so what are my options, can I safely fit 215 wide tyres or should I keep looking?

7"=177.8mm
7.5"=190.5mm
8"=203.2mm

Obviously none of the above are technically equivalent to a 215 tyre, but there is a big diff between 7" and 8" wide wheel for example.

Might be a relatively straight forward question to some but I've never run wheels that narrow since I bought it back in 2001, and I certainly don't want to be running 205 width tyres either.

I've run 205s on my 2wd and have 205s on my 4wd
You shouldn't need bigger rubber unless you have bigger power
Are you running bigger power?

I've had 235 on 7s but the wider tyre u go, you're more likely to have more roll wen cornering so make sure you're careful to which tyre size u do end up going for.

Thanks for the replies, but I mean about running 215's on 7" wide rims? I've run 225 and 215's for years, just on a lot wider wheels.

I meant that I had 235s on 7inch wheels and it caused far too much roll around corners
I think you can get away with 215s but don't go any wider

Personally I wouldnt bother with a 7j wheel, you could probanly get away with a 215 but no more, im looking for a new set myself at the moment and its a royal pain in the arse to get 4x108 and 17x8 think im gonna end up with team dynamics pro race 1.2s, not the most exciting but at least they are readily available in the correct size and fitment

Thanks, sorry I didn't see your earlier reply for some reason. Apart from fitting the tyre on the rim, that's what I was worried about, I had already elsewhere that the sidewalls will flex too much.

Not quite sure what to do, it seems scoobies have this setup, so I'm thinking it can't be overly bad with 215.

Yeah thats my dilemma, I DON'T want comps or the normal wheel that everyone runs on a cossie, but at the same time it needs to be good quality, look good, and be 7.5 min. I had found ideal OZ wheels but they're 7" wide.....

Bugger it, I just sent a moany enquiry to Oz asking why they can make this specific wheel in 7" and not any wider. I think they definately miss a trick or two sometimes. They're probably worried it actually gets used for something decent and breaks if it's any wider.
Betting I get no response or just some dumb shit sales person apologising and offering me a fucking catalogue to look at other wheels....

I did consider that, but it still a hassle. But I'm getting to that point tbh. Sick to death of looking at comps and looking for RL7's.

Haha most likely!
I have a friend who got a special set of 19" superleggras made a few years back for a 4x4 3 door to cover a massive brake conversion. If I get no joy from Oz I may speak with him and see who his contact was, but I'm not willing to pay a silly amount.

You could try BK they do the bmw e30 alpine style wheels
They're 7.5j and can easily take a 225 tyre
However not too sure what they'll look like on a Cossie

Cheers, still not ruled out the Oz option but unfortunately so far I have been proven right and they haven't got back to me, probably because thier sales team are fucking useless and are not interested in answering any kind of technical questions.

So, I emailed compomotive and got a reply 2 hrs later. That's more like it!

215/40/17 or 215/45/17 no problem on a 7" but its the wheel offset you need to be careful with.
Changed from 205/40/17 on a 7" to 215/40/17 on a 7 1/2" and found the car had much more grip. Want to go 8 or 8 1/2" if I can find wheels.

Default Sierra wheels

Just got a set of XXR 527 wheels from Japshop. Probably the best looking wheels with 4 x 108 PCD that I have found. Got 17 x 8.25's which fit on the back but are just too big for the front, so will change these to 7.5's. Then will be going for Yokohama AS01 225/35 tyres on the back and 205/40's on the front. Have a search and let me know what you all think.

On my 2wd Saff I have old school OZ Cronos 7x17 inch et 35 alloys with 215/40/17 tyres . My car is lowered by 35mm and I did have to have the arches rolled but with that done there are no clearance issues at all.
