Remap for Mk4 with a 2.0 TDCi (140)?
I've recently brought a Mk4 Mondeo Titanium X with the 2.0 TDCi engine (140bhp) and I'm looking for a remap to improve the fuel economy. I'm aware if I boot it, I get the power increase, but not the fuel economy. I drive like a granddad most of the time, only very occasionally I put my foot down and enjoy the power. I'm worried how the new map will affect the engine - I read somewhere that in general, most engines are usually mapped at the factory well below their limits, but apparently some engines are already close to their limits and the remap will take them beyond the limit and decrease reliability - is this true for this engine? Fuel savings does not offset repair costs!
If remap is a good idea, what should I go for? Seems there's 3 kinds - the one where someone buys a franchise, given a laptop and sent to my car and upload a generic map. Second kind is something like the Bluefin. And the final kind is a rolling road map. What's the minimum should I go for? Is the Bluefin any good?

The main problem with remapping the 140 is the DMF. Unless the map has torque restrictions on the lower gears, and brings the power in gradually you'll see off the flywheel in no time.
I had a tuning handset from a well known firm on my car and took it off as I could feel the DMF juddering under load.
Any of the big players will provide suitable maps (Superchips, Evolution Chips, Collins Performance etc etc) Steer well clear of cheap jobs, eBay specials and tuning boxes.

I'm rather paranoid of destroying the DMF - I almost didn't buy this car due to the DMF - so I think I'll steer clear of remapping the ECU. Thanks for your advice, much appreciated.
Talking about the DMF - what exactly shortens the life of the DMF? What actions would cause this?

Don't change up too early - Keep the revs up and don't expect it to pull from low speeds in high gears. The DMF can last for a long time if the car is driven well.
Cheers, much appreciated.
I did note that the car doesn't like being in 4th gear at 30mph, while my previous Astra was happy to trundle along smoothly in 4th at 30mph at 1100rpm. I'll avoid this from now on, thanks.

Keep it above 1500rpm when driving along, think turbo comes on around 1750rpm I think. Keeping it in the turbo range is best IMO.
Just brought a 2.0tdci mk4 estate in thunder grey few weeks ago myself.
