Hi everyone, just thought Id show you my wet sanded CLS I did earlier this year...

Products used were;

Snow Foam - Magifoam
De-ironizer - Wolfs chemicals
Meguires 2000/2500/3000 grit papers
Wool pad
Green Hex pad
Finishing pad
Meguires Heavy cut compound
Meguires Ultra Finishing compound
G techniq P1 polish
G techniq C1 laquer
G techniq C5 sealant
G techniq EXO V2 hybrid sealant
Rotary polisher

Probably have missed lots of things but cant remember now for the love of God

Any advice hint an tips? I'm tempted to have ago on my car, I've done machine polishing etc but wouldn't mind having ago at wet sanding

Looks the nuts!!

Not too scary tbh fella, simply id what paint you got, 2k, clear base........

If clear coat use DA sander, 1500 WET/DRY paper to nib any shit out if been painted, if not then 2k abralon pad on da, keep panel/pad wet, flat shine off GENTLY, so cloudy like in pic's above, dry, 4000abra keep wetting to restore, that's the laquer restored, then its pick ya poison's/pads, then cut, polish, glaze/wax.

Very very very laymans guide there, but wet flatting's best way imop and very simple, just time consuming tbh.

 

Hell of a transformation there, must of took balls too! I'd be to afraid if fucking it up to attempt to wet sand a car like that.

Cheers everyone! Yeah it did take balls! But as I detail once in a while, I thought I have to take the next step at one point...may as well be with my own car! Especially after I had heard what some people are charging for wet sanding these days....figures of over £4000 arent uncommon!! I dont get why someone wouldnt just respray their whole car for that much lol

Time wise, it took me around 10 hours to do the bonnet and the roof! The main reason for such a time consuming process was due to the rock hard paint on the Merc! Certain places I had to start off with 1200grit just to get the process moving along!

All in all though, im glad I done it! Its a shame im thinking to send it in for paint work next year LOL!

The end result looks brilliant I wouldn't want to drive it looking so picture perfect.

How do you rate the CLS? It's one of the cars on my "next" list and I love the shape without knowing much about them.

You know I don't like the style, but my god that paint work is to die for, nice work dude.

 

i just wet sanded a red royal mail transit van direct from royal mail and never been polished in its life and faded very badly,cost me nowt for the piece of 1000 wet and dry and then used a old bit of g3 with water poured inside to make it go further and it came up a million times better at the end all glossy shiny red at a cost of probably 50p and 3 hrs of my time.
anyone paying top money needs a punch in the face as its not hard to wet sand with a bar of soap and a old bit of used wet and dry and cutting compound

 

The tranny must have had a few dents in it and rust spots Carl.

 

Bloody awesome. My Cupra R could do with this treatment but due to stone chips I think it would be a bad idea.

 

I have a spare bonnet in the shed, I think I'm going to give it ago.

What do you do start to finish with paper grades to polish. Do you use a soft block?
