Going to view and hopefully purchase a late 2001 mondeo tonight, thing is its on disabled tax! Is it just a case of popping into the post office and paying for a new tax disk or will I have to get the car re registered as a differnt tax class, also will there be a charge for this?

 

a workmate just did this, i'm not sure on the costs, i think it was just the normal price to tax it, but he had to go to his nearest dvla office with all his documents to get it sorted.

 

Go to your local DVLA centre, they will change it back to the normal taxation class for nothing,

Edit, of course you'll have to pay the road tax!!

I've done it down the local post office.

 

Up until very recently you had to go to the dvla now the post office can do it

 

Ahh I didn't know that,had a row once for trying to tax a car that was ex disabled and ended up driving up to the dvla.

 

when i did mine i had to go to the dvla offices with all the relevant paperwork as you need to change the log book as well as show insurance and mot to be able to tax the car in the first place

if the post office can do it now then that's great, but be prepared to go to the dvla office worst case scenario

they won't be op;en to morrow and be prepared for a long wait

 

I thought I might have to go to the dvla offices i work 9-5 mon friday so its gonna be a nightmare, can I send a mate up with trade insurance also I have only just boight the car so not got rhe full log book just the buyers slip?

 

it will say on the inside cover classification that it's disabled which is what you need to get changed, hence you may not be able to do this at the post office

after that you will then need to actually tax it so you have 2 separate issues to contend with, but you've got to get it unregistered first before you can tax it

it took me 2 weeks to sort mine out and, if i'm honest, had i known it was going to be such a pain in the arse i would have paid extra to buy the tax and then driven around for those 2 weeks until it got sorted

which is fine if they can also swap your log book over as well, which is why i explained my situation in more detail, seeing as i've been there and done that

if the rules have changed then it "should" be fine

 

Yes they do change the taxation class, I do it on a daily basis so speak from experience
