Who's had one - Celica GT4
Ford forum it may be, but it would appear you've all had a right variety!
After turning 21 a couple of weeks back, I fancy something a bit more fruity so I've been getting quotes for all sorts. Did the usual 172/182 etc, but yesterday decided to try a Celica for a laugh...
So, insurers logic dictates that I can insure a 250bhp GT Four for less than a Clio Sport?
Anything to look for on them? Common problems etc, things they need at specific miles etc?
Thanks,
Ben.

Ive had one, nice to drive, not that quick tbh but certainly a head turner (presuming you mean the ST205 shape (mine was a M plate I think). Very thirsty, wheel bearing went on me twice, had the larger rear spoiler fitted and thats about all I can remember about it!!!
My mate has one at over 400bhp and its fookin quick, only problem is its as ugly as its quick lol, but he seems to love it, he seems to go through wheel bearings alot since fitting his 18s though
Wheel bearings get ate quick as stated, interiors are drab throughout the range. And when it comes to replacing parts like suspension they can be expensive!
But I don't think they suffer as bad as the Gen7, can be hard as fook to find parts as toyota didn't release much info for blueprints. Also I'm not sure if they have the same problem with poor earthing too.

My mate has got one with uprated turbo and ecu etc etc ,very quick but hes had to put a lot of time into it, not sure if all are rotters but where his front anti roll bar mounts into the bottom of the tub basically was rotten and the bar was hanging loose;
wheel arches common for rot, Above fuel tank also needed attention and underside of boot floor; power steering pipes common for leaking and also hes got through 2x tensioner pulleys on the front no idea why...
Some parts are transferable from the mr2 but that's my mates department..
wheel bearings as already stated but not a massive job to do if you no abit/work in a garage etc (cant remember if he we used a press for his)
Good car now its going strong it wipes out scoobies and some evos etc I guess you get what you pay for..
Hope this helps

things to look for on one are clutches, suspension knocks, rust, turbos, head gaskets, wheel bearings. good car though not as quick as youd think, handle alright and tuneable but toyota cseem to cost a fair amount more to play with than other jap turbo cars

Cheers guys.
Yeah it's the st205 I've been looking at, few around the 3k mark.
As to being thirsty, that's not really an issue as I only do 18 miles a day at the most!
I've worked in a garage and not afraid to get stuck in, we've got a press at work too if the bearings aren't tap in/tapered jobbies.
Should they be ran on the special brew or normal unleaded?
I was looking at DC2 Integras but they're right at the top of my budget, and having some left over just in case is always wise IMO.
Any other suggestions?

I swear I could of written this thread!! Been looking at the exact same cars also, integra dc2 seems to be a good buy also, from what I've read they can rust around the arches, and the transmission can be a weak link in the car, seat bolsters also tend to wear and hardened valve stem oil seals can be a problem (excessive oil consumption is a symptom). The say to also make sure if you are going to get one to make sure it has 2 keys (believe one is the immobiliser and should have 2 fobs). Very good car from what I read, maybe an alternative for the celica? And for some reason a hell of a lot cheaper to insure than a civic type r (for me at least).

Never heard of one! How old? One of these? http://www.pistonheads.com/classifie...--2005/1707396

That's a few photos of the ones I've had... and I think they're great cars. Over engineered to hell and FAR more substantial than an equivalent aged Impreza or Evo.
- Figure of 8 links and bottom arms
- Cambelt service
- Diff Mount
- Worn synchros are starting to be an issue
- Unless forged, avoid anything which has been run at over 1.15bar because the rings don't last long at higher boost levels.
www.gt4oc.net used to be the place to go for info and help.

Cheers,
Grant
My dad had a wide body Carlos Sainz edition ST185. I should have bought it. He put it on eBay about 5 or 6 years ago with no reserve and it only went for Ł1550. I bet it worth a lot more now.
