Folks,
My neighbour has an X plate 1600 Focus (petrol). It's been lying in his drive for a few months and drove in there...we put a battery on it tonight and it would only turn over but not fire up...any ideas? Plenty of fuel in car but can't hear fuel pump prime...have these got a cut off switch that might have activated? Not sure how if so, when car was running fine when parked up?
Cheers for any suggestions

The fuel cut off switch is behind the drivers front kick panel near the pedals.
Also tilt the rear seat base up and you should see a wiring loom that goes through a hole in the floor. This is the loom for the fuel pump.Remove the gromit and try and get the electrial plug to come off the top of the fuel pump. Make sure the electrical pins are ok.
Im saying check this cause my mam and dads 51 reg 1.6 focus stopped running and the pin on top of the fuel pump/sending unit had corroded and snapped off.

i had a Mk1 1.6 focus a few years ago that randomly wouldn't start. Fuel pump dead. Try giving the bottom of the tank a hard bang with your fist while turning it over, might frighten it into life.

Thanks for the info lads, had heard that fuel pumps or connections could be a bit trouble in these but first one I've come across. If fuel pump was dead would it show up on a diagnostic scanner?
I looked at one the other day but was newer (04 plate), I checked pump circuit voltage on cranking at the inertia switch, was only 9 volts, tried powering the pump circuit and it tripped out the power probe, pump was seized, suprised it didn't blow the fuse tbh!
It's stupid that all manufacturers don't put an access panel to remove fuel pumps without removing the tank. VW have been doing it since mk2 Golf days introduced in 83/84! Even Saxos/106s have them!
