I looked at one the other day but was newer (04 plate), I checked pump circuit voltage on cranking at the inertia switch, was only 9 volts, tried powering the pump circuit and it tripped out the power probe, pump was seized, suprised it didn't blow the fuse tbh!
It's stupid that all manufacturers don't put an access panel to remove fuel pumps without removing the tank. VW have been doing it since mk2 Golf days introduced in 83/84! Even Saxos/106s have them!
