Default Car dilemma

I've been a ford mad, show goer and enthusiast for many years now but I'm fearing I'm losing interest. Well more simply I don't have the time and money to put into the car and shows like I used too. I've gone from around 10 shows a year to not getting the car out the garage for nearly 2 years.

I've owned my current ford for 12 years and taken it to the level where I feel anything would cancel out work already done and push it away from the 'subtle' look which I like.
I've had the magazine features and won my concours catagory at Ford Fair, so really pleased with the car, just can I justify just leaving it locked up without use.

Sadly mondeo prices are low and I'm sure I'd need to keep it for many more years to see the values rise so harassment from the wife to sell the car wouldn't really give a return great enough to mentally let the car go.

Have the car shows this year been any better ? as I felt that the ones I attended in 2011 just didn't cut it and hence thats partly why I decided to park the car up in 2012.

Getting the car out the garage today helped put some enthusiasm back, but sadly I've missed the show season so lets hope it carries through to 2014 otherwise I can't justify the car parked for another year.

Has anyone else had these sort of dilemmas ? I'm hoping it'll pass and next year I can return to old form and refind the love to the show scene.

Here are a few pics of the car released from the garage and given its first proper clean down for 2 years.

All depends what you do mate ?

A bad show can still be a good laugh with the right people, going as a Group and taking the piss out of each other is part of the day. I can appreciate those who attend on their own could be a little downhearted.

When I say as a Group I mean with friends not neccesarily a RS or any other style Group.

Looks like you have put alot of money into a vehicle with only a small market to sell to when the time comes ?

No point having it as a garage queen its a nice car so drive it, the best value any car can give is the memory of it in motion ,everything rots and decays to nothing so enjoy it whilst it still mint and enjoy the memory when she's nowt but rot an long gone.

It's a nice looking car, but have to echo some of the points raised, i can't see the value of the mondeo going up, maybe some very low mile standard cars. Mods and styling changes over time and what looks good today will look daft in five years time as things move on, it also makes the car very personal so limits the buyers.

If you enjoy the car then I would just try to use it and enjoy it more, having it sat in the garage and never used is pointless. Its not to say it has to be an everydayer but couple of sundays a month during the summer to get it out and stretch it's legs.

I always think the danger in getting a car up to a spotless show winning standard means you almost become afraid to enjoy it in fear of it getting chipped/dirty etc.

Stunning example trek

As others have said, you've put a lot of time and effort into it and its a shame for it to be locked up in a garage and left unused.

If it was me, i'd be using it during the summer at least at the weekends to get some use out of it and enjoy the fruits of your labours

unfortunatly, these days, you should only build a car for yourself, not for anyone else thinking you will make some money when you flog it

this isn't counting cars or overhaulin' or the like

i've sunk over Ł10k into my mondeo to turn it into what i want as i couldn't buy what i wanted off the shelf/high street/internet but it'll never be worth anywhere near that if i sold it on so i intend to keep it as is

if you keep the car and make sure it's right all the time you'll have far more enjoyment out of it than selling it on and then thinking about it all the time once it's gone

unless you aren't going to run another car that is or you need a daily driver, keep hold of it and instead of going down the pub, use it as a weekend driver or the like

nice car and nice mods done to it, especially the st lump in the front and the nice insides

Enjoy it for what it is mate. You've put the effort in won the trophies etc. Now it's time to get the use out of it. You never know driving it around may get the old passion fired up again. Just use it and see how you feel
