Mk 5 Fiesta 2.0 Zetec widetrack
Hi all, getting bits together to build this car. Just need to know a few things.
1. Which Zetec engine do I go for? Black or silver 1.8 or 2.0 (for ease of fitment and cost)
2. What gearbox? Standard fiesta box? Am I right in thinking most ford boxes marry up to most zetec blocks?
3. Widetracking front end... Is there a combination of box, shafts, arms I can use or are hubcentric spacers my only option?
Need to do this on a tight budget. I want to go about 4" wider each side - body work and tools/labour etc not a problem as I work at a garage.
Thanks in advance!

2.0 silvertop I'd go for, standard fiesta box will fit (think you need a 1.8 clutch) provided you aint going down the forced induction route, not too sure how you are going to widen your track, especially by 4 inches each side

You want a 2.0 black top with a 1.8 sump and water pump and a Renault 5 oil filter.
You need a ib5 gearbox from a mk4 or 5 fiesta diesel. This puts the starter in the correct position. And yes you will need a 1.8 Zetec clutch.
You can use racing puma shaft, hubs shocks and wishbones for wide track with low offset wheels. This will give you plus 2ish inch each side. This is plenty. Any more and it won't drive properly.
And if you run a Zetec s loom you can jiggle 2 wires about and plug a 58pin focus ecu straight and it will run of the original loom ( I looked loads Into this. )

Wow! That's a lot of info to digest!
The widetracking part i've sorted. Hubcentric spacers and et15 wheels.
So could I not just fit a 1.8 blacktop to save having to get a sump, water pump and clutch? I assume I'd need a 1.8 flywheel for the clutch anyway?
When you say a zs loom... Do you mean complete or can I just take the engine loom?
Thanks very much for the replies everyone, keep'em coming!!

I'm not going to be going turbo. I just want a nippy little toy that looks well. Can anyone confirm if the fiesta shafts will fit into the gearbox that comes with a 2.0 or 1.8 engine?
So I can buy a scrap escort/mondeo or whatever and just plonk it in and wire it up. I don't want a 2.0 if I have to buy a sh!t load of 1.8 bits.

Have you thought about a mk5 rs2000 engine? If you are just sticking a bigger engine in it and leaving it like that it'll have a bit more poke than a zetec. Someone on rs2000 16 valve did the conversion, I can get you a link if you like?
Shit, can't remember my password, and only members can view the page. That was a fail and a half!!

If you're planning on running massive spacers to widen the track it will handle like a bag of shite. Much better off not going 'I want it to be 4inches wider' and setting it up correctly instead. Width isn't everything when it comes to handling, and the Fiesta's are pretty nimble at standard width.

I was going down the 2.0 route for cost reasons only. My idea being to buy a scrap mondeo for around Ł120 and swapping the bits into a fez.
Sounds like buying a Zetec S in disrepair is my easiest option!
So lets say I get a Zetec S... What do I need to do to get 130-150 BHP?

Zetec S to 130-150 bhp
4-2-1 Manifold, exhaust, free flow filter in original airbox, Shawspeed SS4 cams and a re-map.
Will see the thick end of 150bhp, no ned to mess with the TB or inlet etc

I wasn't aware the standard ecu was remappable? Or do you mean buying management? I won't be buying cams anyway as cost is an issue. Would it run on the standard ecu with the manifold etc?
