Default trackers, GPRS gps , eBay £40 jobs

Any good at all?

Ain't really found much on forums about them.

Eg this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Gps-Tracke...item43bc740541

Tho there's various models around £30 to £50 .

I know there are expensive subscription systems, but with 3 cars this is more than I can afford really so,

After my recent events wouldn't mind a bit of piece of mind, that if one of my vehicles goes missing, I can pull out my phone, attempt to locate and restive it myself, as insurance ain't worth the paper it's written on!

Lots of people on xrtwo site use them
If you can hide it well and it battery back ups its worth a shot
You can get those tracker blockers but I expect they can be made in workable
They if into lighter sockets so I would hidden switch the lighter socket and a few other tricks

Track it on any other apple device or through the web on the icloud website, job jobbed!

cheers

, and looked at the old phone route before, but you need a SIM, that has and uses data, so on going costs, ok for one motor, but pricey when wanting to track 3.

I see that, but 3 is the only 3g only SIM ain't it? also possibly the new ee sims.

in the amazon reviews someone mentions tescos mobile, as they have a 4p a text plan, so top up £10 and get 400 texts until used uo, so could last you years it seems.

If the thief comes prepared, they can be stopped. But not many thief's will suspect that an old ford is tracked!

I would think that positioning is Everything! so spend some time working out where is best for your car!

The more thiefs caught the better.

anyone know much about these things?

i would prefer a tracker that can continually (every 30s or so) broadcast it's location to a web server to be tracked using a data connection rather than it having to be asked its location by a text message.

something more like a TK104:

Well it turned up today, and .... it works , all seems good so far.

chucked in a voda sim , that i know had a few quid credit on it.

conected the two antennas, switched on, internal battery had some power.

2 / 3 mins later set it up via text with my phone.

rung it, and it text me back the location details, and a google map link.

and it also sent me a text 10mins later , saying low power.

tried it a few times, over the last few hours in a few different locations, all worked ok

So far so good

going to pick up a Talk mobile sim from carphonewhorehouse , as they seem to be the cheapest for texts only @ 4p each, so 250 for a £10 top up, as dont want a monthly top up pay as you with a bundle etc.

I'm guessing that's £10 topup a month to get the unlimited texts, so £120 over the year.

the talk mobile SIM is £10 and that's for credit no inclusive texts, but 4p a text. so in theory would last you for life, once set up a handfull of texts needed, then the odd text now and then to keep the sim alive, that's it, unless the unfortunate occurs.

For that price and no need for subscription I would say its ideal, hopefully you wont ever need to use it though,

there's a few options, gprs live tracks it no requirement for and texts, tho still need to play with this on it.

and you can text it and it will tested a location back every 20sec ( I'm sure I read in the manual ) that would eat your credit.

and also as mentioned about if driven off with the keys , you can cut the fuel if wired in.

Few quids worth of credit and recovering your car? I'd say worth it. And seeing as a lot of networks let you top up on line, no problems there either.

Might look at one myself...

GPRS is a data connection it can go up to a 100k sec and that is more than enough for this. Txt's for some (economic) reason are considered separately! some top up sims require topping up every 6 months some are every 12 months as the "credit" expires! check in advance so it works when you need it!

VODAPHONE have had data only tariffs for more than a decade! - some of the kit I use for work use them!

A little bump, they are forsale on amazon currently at £27.48 fulfilled by amazon seller XCSOURCE

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-lis...K?tag=ho01f-21

with a one off payment of £20 with ovivo, you get a 0 freedom sim that gives you 300texts and 500mb data every month for no on going charges ( ive not tried these sims in mine yet, as still have credit remaining on my current talk mobile setup )

has anyone got any experience of the Ovivo SIM cards in such a device? their website talks about them being suitable for only certain phones, can't be used for VPN and other uses that block the advertising that they use to pay for the service and so on.

Whilst the idea of phones was mentioned. Why stick an old blackberry or something in there with a voda payg sim and use berrylocate

I use it for the kids and its free !!.You can see where phone has been and and what times plus you can alter the updating too whatever you want from a minute upwards.

I went out to a daf aid last night on the m3 at just gone midnight because of a cheap tracker lol! Some clown had wired it into the main engine can line and it was putting a funny signal onto the can line. As the can is very sensitive to voltage and resistance the engine gearbox and ebs brake system warning lights were coming on

I have one on my car I've had it for over a year now.

If you are getting one make sure you get it with the wiring to be able to trickle charge it.

It works well for a car being used every day but no good for a car that is stored. Mine drained my battery within about 2 weeks when the car was stored.

For the money though you really can't go wrong, but I plan on removing it and fitting an old iPhone somewhere on the car with PayGo simcard in it, constantly on charge with a hacked in car charger hooked into some unlikely wiring discreetly somehow.

If the worst happens you just credit the PayGo sim online and use the find my Iphone whatsit.

An iPhone with a non fucked battery will long outlast the Chinese tracker if they park the car and remove the car battery.

How these things work they have a SIM card in them you top them up then use a iPhone or Samsung phone you ring the tracker and it sends you a text back with a speed and battery life left and a live to google maps you click on the link and it will show you ware it is there very good
