Need to seal the wheels on my motorbike, as I get a lot of brake dust. What's best? I used to have Poorboys wheel sealant, that was very good. Ideally want something similar, when you use it as wax say, and from then on, just use a dry cloth, and all the brake dust just comes off on the cloth!

I have the poorboys stuff and ive only used it the once lol! i seem to remember it was good! my brother painted my wheels on my cabby and i just polish and wax them like i do the rest of my car! they come up quite shiny

 

I use PoorBoys Wheel Sealent.....Superb stuff IMHO

 

Yeah rinsing will remove 95% of the brake dust,but you do need to give them a little wipe or a use soft detail brush to get inbetween the spokes ect

No need for dedicated wheel cleaners aswell,shampoo or snow foam lifts the dirt no problem.

To apply, just make sure the wheels are super clean,then clay them and use some ipa before the C5

 

what is ipa?

i take it you dont mean pale ale lol?

 

IPA is Isopropyl Alcohol..basically removes any oils/residues off the paint/wheels etc so you know you are sealing whatever surface you want to protect, rather than sealing a layer of polish residue which will probably come off the next time you wash the car, then blame the sealant for being crap lol

I love using Gtechniq C5 as suggested above, or the cheaper CQuartz dLux I think its called which is currently on my Merc wheels!

ah i should have clicked lol. we use IPA kwik wipes at work!

but i guess spraying some of the stuff on is easier than wiping it?

im going to look at doing my car soon. also with the ipa wipes, i plan on claying the car soon too, so once clayed, would it be a good idea to wipe over the the ipa, or try and polish out the swirl marks first, then wipe then polish then wax??

Yes spraying it is better than just using wipes...its available all over the place so sourcing it wont be difficult....if you have no joy, im sure you can get it on amazon, ebay or the likes of cleanyourcar or elite car care etc...its no special stuff for detailing work though so you will pay a premium if you dont buy stuff thats used in a chemist etc

In regards to PB or Gtechniq....you cant compare the two...PB is no where in the same league as C5....C5 and Cquartz are proper sealants and add a layer of protection to the wheels with its nano tech...it actually chemically adheres to the wheel/paint...

The PB is just a wax in all honesty...it breaks down very easily and hot brake dust can also cause it to break down. You will find yourself redoing your wheels after every other wash....

The Cquartz and the C5 will last MUCH longer...my C5 on the Focus lasted around a year, and the Cquartz I have on my Merc has been on for around 2months and still beading like day one!

Nano sealants will last around 6-12months, wax will last around 1-2months IMO with regular washing and driving.

Yes mate its the same stuff as used by pharmacists etc...I think the stuff I use is 99% pure or something...anything along those lines is fine

Oh, one more question lol

my car has lots of swirl marks, what product would you advise to use to get rid of them?
oh, NOT autoglym super resin polish - i used that once before and the looked ace after.
then the next week i washed it and it looked horrific, can see all the swirls etc and it looked very dull. infact it still does as its the missus cmax lol

i will probably have to apply by hand tho.

i used to use G3 compound, but from memory it was a bit of a pain to work with

 

did you wax it after using AG srp?
a lot of people use it and dont wax it afterwards so when it rains the fillers just wash off

for hand polishing gtechniq p1,which is great but a lot of hard work

 

Definitely recommend P1 polish from Gtechniq! One of my favourite polishes!

The problem with polishing with hand is it take ALOT of time and effort, and more than likely, by the time you are done doing one panel, you will look at the rest of the car and think f@@k that lol!

I guess you have to narrow it down to; how bad are the swirls, have you got the patience to do it all by hand, vs howmuch is someone going to charge to do the whole lot for you...

Yeah, after the srp i used dodojuice blue velvet wax on both cars.

And the next time i washed, with dodojuice lime summut they looked aweful lol

 

I know its a big task mate, but i could say clay a panell at lunchtime and then polish it when i get home etc and do it over a few days.
I only get 1/2 hour lunch tho lol

IPA spray you can get cheap from CPC and RS components

 

How much C5 do you need? I wanna do the wheels on my motorbike, will 15ml be enough? What do you apply it with?

 

James 15 ml would do a lot of bike wheels, a 15ml bottle will cover a set of 18inch rims including faces and the inners on a car.

15ml will be plenty! I normally buy 30ml and usually you can get two cars done (C1), and thats the complete exteriors!

Dont do what I did will my last bottle of C1 though...knock it over by accident!!!! A VERY expensive mistake! Luckily there was enough to finish the Merc off!

With C1/C5 (they are the same thing), make sure there is no residue, polish, oils, previous sealents or waxes etc on the surface, otherwise the C1/C5 wont be as effective and will only last as long as the previous layer does (as its not bonding directly to paint)

Places I buy are usually from Gtechniq direct, Elite Car Care, or Cleanyourcar all very good and reliable companies to buy from.

If you buy from Elite, speak to Alex and let him know Amar with the CLS sent you and he normally sorts a little something out

What do I need to apply the C5???

 

It says just wipe it off with a cloth, but not what to apply it with, a pad? microfibre cloth? A link to whatever I need to apply it with on Amazon would be good, as I've got it all on there including IPA!

Its payday tomoz so if i get chance ill order some stuff. Very busy at work t the mo tho!

I have managed to clean and clay the scoob at the weekend but need to remove some tar spots from the doors/ skirts before i polish.
My mate has a rotary i can borrow, but i think it may just be an angle rinder with adjustable speed and i dont know what the slowest speed is. I read circa 1000rpm is needed for polishing etc?
