I used to use an Optimate, top piece of kit and has some nice features imo.
Loads of models up to the 7 which is the latest, price from around £30 to £90 depending on the model.

I have a Ctek one I got from Costco! That has done me proud for a number of years not only trickle charges the battery as needed (monitors level of charge) it can condition the battery too! I also have one as part of the car coon storage system and that is fine but not as good as the Ctek one but it will keep the bubble up if the power goes using the car battery then recharge it afterwards! - These can both be left connected to the battery indefinately.

These charges keep the battery in good condition but take a long time to charge the battery. - fast chargers aren't so kind to the battery but will get you going in several 10s of minutes!

Have you thought of Solar powered chargers? I trued this with out success about 11 years ago! In the end I opted for a 50 meter extension lead! that way I could run my coon too!

Now days technology has moved on a lot and things like Ebay item number: 110986569526 are now available! The controller is essential as you need something that can protect your car battery whilst charging it. Preferably having automatic cut off to prevent over-charging and deep discharge.
