Default MK 2 Mondeo Clutch Change...HELP Please

I have a x plate (2000) 1.8 Mondeo which needs it's clutch changed. I need some advice.

I have the Haines manual but that's about as much use as tits on a goose.

I have no workshop so am going to have to remove the subframe and drop the transmission out the bottom.

Here's my questions.
Are there any sensible short cuts i can use to do this? I only want to change the clutch!!
Do i really need to strip the car down like the Haines manual says?

I bought the car for a few hundred, six months ago and don't want to waste a huge amount of time on it. It's a great runner apart from the clutch.

Hope someone can help...thanks in advance

Mike

The only other way I've heard of other people doing it is by dropping the subframe on the nearside and just resting the box on it while the clutch is changed but I've never done it that way myself so I couldn't tell you how difficult or easy it is to do it that way. I personally think it's more hassle than it's worth doing it that way.

They're not actually that difficult to do really, I used to do them pretty quickly.

Just a tip though, before you drop the subframe, insert a really thin screwdriver in the holes through the radiator top locating pins that go through the slam panel to stop it falling down, I've seen a few folk not do that!!

Hateful job. Possibility of captive nuts spinning in the floor on one that old. As said tie the radiator up at the top before you drop it. Make sure you unclip all the wires and aircon gubbins before you drop it. Might be worth getting some new pinch bolts for the ball joints before you start.

Pice off piss just lots to remove! Only problem is if captive nuts spin on subframe! I done then by dropping sub frame a bit and wedging gearbox and was a fumbling pain!

Thanks for this....It looks like i'm going to have to do the same and just drop the subframe on the passenger side, do i have to unbolt everything attached to the subframe? also what was the best way to support the engine and transmission?

for Ł150,I'd just let a mechanic with a ramp do it. Amazing how many folk try a clutch job, then after they put it all back together, sometimes hear "I cant engage any gears after changing clutch etc".Even with a ramp,my mechanic took over 5.5 hours to do mines.
kudos to ya for trying it tho

I did a clutch on a V6 Mondeo and only lowered the subframe on one side. You will need a support bar for the engine, or an engine crane. You could possibly rig something up with a hefty wooden plank, but it must be capable of supporting a lot of weight.
