why use dark greens on a cossie loom conversion????
As above i'm currently in the middle of sorting my self out all the bits to go cossie managment however while i'm looking at the bits everyone uses 9 times out of ten there using dark greens (803's) as far as i'm aware these are used when running 330bhp stg2 on a cossie....
Yet almost all the cars that have this done are well short of this figure and would have there power figures more than catered for with the std yellows or blues...............?
So there must be a reason for it, is it more for the mid-range torque figure with the 2.1 zvh engine that i'm going to be using having a longer stroke or are they just playing things safe and keeping things well within the capabilities of the injectors.
Its got my head batterd as i cant get an answer out of anyone as even the tuning companies round here are well sceptical that it can even be done let alone set up?????
But this as we know is shite as theres enough of them out there in the mags to say otherwise........................
HELP PLZ.................................YOU KNOW YOU CAN

I would imagine a lot of people do it in view of possible future modifications, or perhaps that they think they're going to have a lot more power (and therefore require a lot more fuel) than they actually ever end up needing.
One thought might be that whoever is going to be doing the mapping may not have a base map for Yellows or Dark Blues and a 3 Bar MAP sensor whereas everyone has one for Greens and 3 Bar, so perhaps preferred by the mapper?
If your aiming for power upto 270bhp or so, and dont intend on going above, then no reason why you couldnt / shouldnt use Yellows or Dark Blues that I can see

It is always advisable to use new injectors or at least checked and serviced injectors. If you are going to buy new injectors then why buy new yellows or dark blues. Get greens and they will cater for almost every possibility.
That is in my opinion by the way.

Hi there paul1rs can you tell me what bhp you are pushing out so i can use you as the 1 in 10 that dont use greens as this might be valuble info for me, also who done your conversion???

1) Always use new injectors.. and greens are cheap.
2) The engines arent often as efficient as a YB and due to their lower BSFC will require more fuel per BHP than you may expect.
Hope this helps.

1) fair enough that makes sence
2) i can see what it is you are trying to say but what does BSFC stand for ?
So if i'm only aiming for 230 to 240bhp out of a 2.1 zvh with a 285t cam , stg 1 head, scorpion exhaust , and 14psi and expecting it to run stg 1 L6 or L8 on std blues/yellows am i being realistic?????????????

Brake Specific fuel consumption.
As for the injectors, if the engine airflow is good enough and the BSFC high enough you should be ok. Ask your engine builder for more details, but i would be fitting greens regardless of the low power figure simply because they are new and id put money on it the ones your talking about are not

Believe me, the dark greens are not that big for a nicely modified 1.6 turbo CVH. In fact, they are the components that now restrict me going further as I'm already going beyond 100% duty at 12:1 AFR.
Cheers ppl i'm going to be building my self my own 2.1 zvh as i normally build these for my m8s.
Thing is i've never tried cosworth management and just thought i'd have a go just to be different.
Stu @ M Developments: if i did get this all done and dusted would it start and run on the cosworth ecu enough to drive it down to you for a map session or will it just not graft and need trailering......?

Stu may however have a couple of base files from previously mapped Cossie managed CVH's he could send you.
Probably difficult to say as the Cossie map is probably not suited to a CVH at all.

im currently running a 2ltre zvh turbo on L6 management (unmapped) & yellows (s/hand) & it runs reasonably well! im just building a 2.1, & after reading this will be fitting some new greens to it! then its off to stu for a live map. i did have it (supposibly) mapped @ pts & wish i had ate the money instead

by resonably well what do you mean also what power figure did you get ??
cheers m8
the engine is running very rich & is only really happy on boost, probably due to the restricted flow through the cvh head in comparison to the cossie head, my power figure was crap on picking it up from pts 175 bhp & same torque, this was due to the rotor arm being set incorrectly (wasn't set like that when i took it in!) i set it correctly & it goes so much better now, but ive not had a power run since as im building a 2.1 zvh to replace it, then off for a proper live map
