Default How to clean an engine bay?

To my disposal I have, wd40, trim blackener, auto gylm engine degreaser and a can of gunk. Try as I might I just can't get it clean. I daren't just spray the hose in there willy nilly.

I've heard all sorts like, plastic bags over the electrics, engine on, spray the cleaner everywhere, scrub where you can, hose off then dry and put trim blackener on the covers and wd40 on the hoses.

What does that sound like? Just want someone with experience to help me, and my dads only ever done land rover bay with no electrics in it and none of my mates are serious into car cleaning

Im doing my boxster bay soon and this is my own method first WD all parts to be cleaned mainly the alum ,it works well as a pre-cleaner and use soft brass brisseled shoe or wire brushes on the alum and soaked rags on pipe work then jizer it let it soak then hose off with very hot water then spunge off excess and leave for a good few hours do that a few times it will look nice !

What car is it?

I gave the gunk a good brushing in, let it soak for 5 mins, then spray the hose on it to rinse, not going mad and holding it at height so not to force water in to anything.

A bit of vinyl and rubber squirty stuff and it was looking brand new!

I normally use truck wash and the jet wash and get right in there. Then start it and take it for a drive to dry it. Lift the bonnet then fanny about with your trim shine to your hearts content.
Stand back, crack open a cold one and admire your not so hard work!

search youtube for junkman2000, watch some of his detailing videos. They are very informative! His machine polishing for novices video guide is really worth watching, over an hour long though!
