hi Guys,

have removed the thermostat housing unit off my 4x4 sapphire cossie to replaced a deteriorated water hose and noticed that i also need to replace the circular rubber seal found in a recess on the face of the thermostat housing unit where it meets the cylinder head. help is greatly appreciated in sourcing this seal .

BTW is it right to have a rubber seal there or should there be a paper gasket over the whole face like there is on the thermostat housing cap?

would you advise putting some sealer on the face of the thermostat housing and the head. both faces are perfect but it was visible that there was a thin film of sealer applied when it was last assembled. I dont see any point in this now that the seal will be new. What are your opinions ? Am I overseeing something?

you might as well get a thermostat at the same time (cool running one as your in a hot country). no sealer, just make sure the recess that that the gasket sit in is clean. there will be a little gap around the faces of the housing as it dont fit flush on a 4x4 with the stat in.

I am also planning to replace all the seals on my factory fitted oil cooler (modine ?) and oil filter extension arm and bolt. Were can I find this whole set of seals? BTW how many are there 3 in all? (oil cooler to block, filter arm to oil cooler and filter arm large central bolt, am I right?). many thanks to all for your help.

 

The block to cooler and cooler to arm are seals like you'll find on an oil filter. the bolt seal is just a dowty washer.

Pretty sure the seals are discontinued from Ford

Dowty washer should be handy enough to find, so you just need the cooler to arm seal.

inspecting the oil cooler set up i discovered that the large external nut holding the extension arm onto the inlet union was somewhat loose, so decided to tighten it up and see if the small leak goes. noticed that the engine mounting arm has to be removed to take out the oil filter extension arm and then the modine to replace the seals

will see if this works out otherwise will have to replace the seals some other time.
