I assume you mean the ST170 as you mention "back at school", if so then yes they aren't really what you would call fast, depends on what he defines by heavy, they are average for the class of car, the MK2 is faster and has more power than the MK1 FRS! Both are known to be thirsty but at last with the latter you can kind of justify it with the performance and the sound of a lovely 5 cylinder engine!

60 quid will give you about 2/300 miles on a tuned one if you behave a little

I'm still getting 30mpg as an average for the year and a half i've had mine. Mostly 75 mile a day commutes (with some spirited driving, not all miss daisy) so no town driving which would kill that.

If you drive it hard then you'll not see 20mpg; drive it respectfully and you'll get 30+

If you're doing 300 miles a month then I wouldnt worry about the MPG at all and just enjoy it as it is great fun

Average is typically around 23-25mpg ish for town driving so for the mileage you are going to be doing not particularly an issue and definitely not slow. Mildly tuned ST's are comfortably in the region of 280-300bhp so not slow by any stretch of imagination.

my brother as got a ST3 standard 225 bhp
my self got a standard MK1 rs

and both of them could not catch me and my old st170 was about 185 bhp and was far from slow would give anything a run for its money and kept up with my mates 240bhp st220 all the way to 150mph
