Default 1.8-st conversion

hi all a bit of a long story but the short of it is that i like the mk2 mondeo and i love my 1.8 lx but its lacking under the bonet if you catch my drift, ive always loved the the st ever since my grandad had an st24 some years back when it was new, i cant aford to insure an st 24 or 200 although i would like to. so i want to buy an st thats going cheap and swap out everything over to my lx, ive seen them go for as little as 400 with an mot so i mite beable to find one in my colour if im lucky. so the question is what are the differences between the two cars? i will be rebuilding the full suspension, brakes and giving the engine a bloody good go over before i fit it all into the mondeo. can i just unbolt all the lx stuff and bolt in the st stuff.

hope you got all that hahah i would be doing the conversion when i get my new van in febuary.
cheers kieran

Insurance will be more on a converted car, than on a standard ST so your conversion will be a load of work, and completely pointless.

well ill risk it. im not arsed about the insurance problem. if need be and i do have a crash i can just pay the difference to be insured properly they give you a chance to be that before they void it. had it happed to a few people i know and my dad, he didnt put his alloys on his insurance when he crashed in the snow so he had to pay the difference to be covered i think it was about £15 hahahahh

You'll risk it. So what if you crash into someone else? Will you pay them too?

I'd happily offer advice, but not with that attitude.

Thats the sort of attitude from a kid that does the engine change and then kills someone because he forgot to do the brakes as well. He will then be complaining that HIS life is ruined.

Insurance companies are now sie to this and will screw you over big time, foprgetting to delcare wheels is diffrent to fortgetting to declare an engine change, also the DVLA and police are now taking action against this sort of thing.

gotta say mate
Buy an ST200 -
my current one cost me £350!!!!!
sat for 2yrs - straight through MOT
and then i set about doing what i wanted to do to it
they are expensive to insure
I added tubular manifolds , de cat full stainless system 18s and Mk3 brakes
I saw the premium go down with the Mods..

dude, if youve been quoted 2k for a 24 or 200 and been driving for atleast 5 years then you must have claimed or (more likely) had claims against you.

FFS is this idiot still here??????????

If you want to be a dick and drive a car illegally then go ahead but dont moan when people try to give you good advise. If you cant afford to insure a 200 then I very much dount that you could afford the fuel bills.

if you thought that much of your car you would want in insured correctly. your not just paying for a piece of paper which allows you to tax your car each year, if you was in a accident you would want everything taken care of would you not??

Its because of people like this trying to beat the system that fuck it up for people playing by the book.

If you weren't such a f*ckin twat, coming on here giving it all the big man bullshit, then maybe you'd get the advice you're after. It's retards like you who push premiums up for the rest of us.

But it does concern us, it could be one of us that you hit, or a member of our families.

I am in a similar position in terms of thinking of the 24 engine swap however I'm not a Tw*t and would like a bit of information of the conversion.

1) I'm in Australia and a lack of st24/st200 means finding one is like finding rocking horse poo and will cost about 3K.

2) I am happy to let my insurance company know as being in Aus my insurance is only 200 quid third party fire n theft.

3) I have already done the mk3 caliper upgrade (had to import calipers) and there are a few cars i could salvage a duratec 25 out of

4) There are other cars I could get ie a ford falcon xr6 turbo etc but i like the mondy.

If someone could give me a hand that would be appreciated - even a pm so this guy doesn't make a people killing machine would be fine by me
