Default Getting a car waxed/polished - how much?

I hate cleaning cars, and I hate polishing them even more Haven't polished a car for probably 10 or 12 years!

I get a local hand car wash to wash the car, and they do a nice job (even if it is Ł12) doing the outside, inside, door shuts, etc.

But I was wondering if it's worth getting it waxed/polished too. My paint is pretty nice, and it'd be nice to protect it, and really have it shine (it's smooth and shiny when it's been washed, but I'd have thought a waxing/polishing would make it even nicer), and I presume that waxing/polishing helps protect the paint too?

How much would I be looking for to have this done?

Go on detailing world and ask on there I bet someone will happily do it cheap... Rather than going to a proper detailer

Can't tempt you to come down and wax it for me, for tea and toast? How about some buns too?

Price depends if your wanting a quick hand polish then some wax,or if your wanting a 3 + stage machine polish then some wax or sealant.
Any depending which wax/sealant you choose that could massively increase the price of the job.

If i was just purely concentrating on the paint surface only then say for a fine cut jewling polish then adding a glaze then a sealant your looking at Ł150 mark either up or down from that . I guess it depends if its a pro or not and the circumstances. Rarely id say a car comes to a detailer that is perfectly ready for machine polish. theres always decontaminating to do at the best of times usually. edit- The wheels and tyres also detailed .
Where are you?

Um, I just want it washed, and then polished/waxed (someone tell me what the difference is please) - like most people do on a Sunday afternoon. I don't want it for Ł150 though

Like anything its the pre prep thats the most important stage, polishing then waxing when there is tar and fallout over the car is a waste of time.

I did say more or less depending. If your after a quick job then lets say around Ł50 for a hand polish and an added wax or sealant. 2 coats minimum.
Polish products have abbrasives to cut the surface hence polishing, waxing is applying a product that will protect the paint and of course keep it easier to maintain and keep it shining for longer.

Just to add your paint will only look as good the more polished it is. Sealant and waxes can and will create that look were are after but only as much as the surface will allow. If its looking good now with what youve used it will definately have scope for improvement even if subtle.

What would be a ballpark figure for a machine polish to remove the majority of swirling? I would like my car sorted, it gets abused so full correction would not be necessary but would just like it to look a bit better.

Harlow, Essex.

To be fair, I was thinking of a ballpark of Ł20-Ł30 for a hand polish/wax. I understand machine polishing costs more, and one day having it clayed, machined, buffed and finished would be awesome, but I have more pressing things to pay for than that unfortunately

i run a car wash / valet centre.

Based on your car:

Our top wash and hand polished Ł25 (Ł11 of that is the wash).

Machine polishing from Ł60.

Totally worth doing for winter.

Ball parks for you and were one of the dearest around here. I'm Northwest btw.

With that budget in mind considering its going to take 2-4 hrs at best if done nicely its a labour of love at Ł20. Best way i,d go with that is to apply a product such as AG SRP . 3 jobs in one application. Light cut, filling and protecting

I,m going to look into being a trader on here soon as my friend and I will be starting our Detailing business very soon , not sure how it works so will look into it and would like to offer discounts to members of course.

Based in Essex too.

I'd have thought a simple wax/polish would take about half an hour (considering that I used to polish my cars in about an hour, and I'm shit!) and was thinking Ł40-Ł60 an hour would be very good money for whoever is doing it! 2-4hrs? It's a car, not a boat!

Kam, bit far from you though, but thanks for the offer! If you want, PM the price and I'll let you know, but that depends if you're a mobile valeter as I don't really fancy driving to Slough and back! Car's lucky I drive it 5 miles to get a wash

Another issue is if you go to the effort of polishing and waxing it then continue taking it to those kurdish handwash places the chemicals they use are so harsh it will strip the wax off after a few attempts
