Default Cayenne turbo or rangy sport???

Has anyone on here any experience of either?

The cayenne has nigh on 500hp so sounds like it may be a bit of a weapon and build quality looks good but it seems to be a bit of a marmite car, why?

The rangy sport seems like a good alternative but are they getting a bit common now? The ones round here seem to be driven mostly by the footballers wife type or Katie price!!

Any opinions?
Alternatives... Supercharged L322 ??

My brothers boss runs three discos, two diesels and one Sport. All have been nothing but hassle. All had over Ł2000 spent on each suspension system due to failure. The sport is being sold as the gearbox and suspension are on there last legs. My brother has one and it is riddled with electrical problems. 58 plate

I LOVE rangerovers but the BMW X5 is a bargain in comparison. Just bought one for the mrs after looking for a range..

A range of similar age/mileage/spec carried a 5-7k premium over the BM and they aren't as reliable!

New Cayenne or older one?

Old is just so so ugly... great car though. New Cayenne is great looking car apart from the silly new big P O R S C H E badge they put on all new cars.

New Cayenne Diesel S is a monster and Ł30k cheaper than a petrol turbo and still has 650lbft toque!

Range Rover sport is nice place to sit but has bad rep for niggles and every cunt has one here in Essex! There is a road near me where there are 3 houses next to each other with one in grey, one in black and one in white. Looks silly.

Range Rover sport is also about to be replaced next year. So prices will tumble I think of old... especially as there is ALOT of them about and also Evoque is eating into the sales..

The new full fat Range Rovers supposed to be amazing car BTW... and looks much better than the old one.

also look at depreciation values....no point spending Ł50k on a car when 3 years later you only get back Ł15k or less!
How about the Lexus 4x4?
I would go the X5 route though and this is my personal choice.

I've had my Sport for 1 1/2 years now, cracking big comfy cars , as said they suffer from suspension and electrical faults, I've replaced the suspension compressor, battery and parking sensor looms by apart from that its been great
Also very very common where I stay

As said I'd go new disco over the range

Plus everyone I know with ranges seem to have them visit the garage for repairs quite often

Mate of mine had to have all the bushes replaced at 700 quid don't know if that's good or not but I say fuck that lol

Plus the porka turbo is silly fast so that will get my vote plus it's different

But new shape disco is my choice even though its not on the list

Personally, i think both are too 'brash' and I agree with Crowson, they are tacky as fook.

If you want a similarly prestige, similarly priced, similarly powerful car, with a similar amount of space, luxury & comfort whats wrong with a decent estate?

You could have the Audi A6 Avant V10, or the Mercedes E63 AMG Estate, or a BMW M5 Estate:, far cooler than a 4x4 and you wont get people thinking the person behind the wheel is a wannabe WAG with an inky dinky dog in their handbag on the passenger seat when they see it

Easy decision for me as the Cayenne is an awful looking vehicle.

That's an easy one to answer as the rs6 I borrowed last weekend with a view to purchase got stuck less than 20feet onto the entrance of my inlaws farm/small holding and had to be towed out by our old range rover (awesome car on the road mind you )

Thanks for the replies guys.

Hearing more tales of issues on the sport's puts me off them a little especially as I'm not in a position to buy new at the moment (was looking around 08-09 plates) but depends on what sort of warranty is available.

I think il try a cayenne out to see if the driving experience is good enough to outweigh its looks ( it could be a bit like biffing a fat chick, not great to look at but a whole load of fun with the lights off...... Sort of).

it all depends what you want it for ?

Practicality or to be a poser

Personally like most have said id steer clear of the Range Rover. The Audi's are good but tbh there all in the same bracket nowadays and seem to have lost what they were all about. Luckily in Derbyshire the wags and footballers dont out number the farmers so were safe for a bit.

Id go down the big esatae car route if you really dont need a 4x4 style vehical so many options and so much to be had for your money

Porsche without a doubt.
Had one before then went over to an ML and will probably get another Porsche. ML was nothing but a nightmare with electrical problems - maybe a Friday car but it's a real pisser when you've bought it and can't use it! A few guys I work with had RR sports and they'd never ever entertain having one again - they were that bad and they were massive RR fans and would never hear a bad word said about that before.

You get used to the look of it.

Brother in law is looking at the Audi Q's but there to van looking for me. I had a look at a few Volvo's but there's something about it which screams, " No, don't get one". X5's just seem dated and X6's were designed by someone who had Freddy Kruger in his head.

Q7's seem to eat through tyres like they're going out of fashion, RRS's are really nice cars but have reliability issues and normal RR's are too wallowy on the road if driven enthusiastically. Cayenne or X5 if it were my money

My mate runs a cayenne turbo as an everyday car
Blisteringly fast but they drink petrol like its free and he's never bettered 17mpg
Around town he gets about 9
But it's black, with black interior and its only had a few issues in its 5 years of ownership
His is the older version the newer version is slightly better of fuel
You can get a nice one for around Ł16k as that's what he's been offered for his in part chop for a newer version

Another mate runs a diseasal rrs, no complaints there either, but its not a car he drives everyday as he doesn't want it as a daily driver more of a weekend posing motor

Between the 2 I'd take the porcshe all day long, it's built better and even after 8 years and 4 kids its still squeak and rattle free

The range hasn't fared as well and is only 5 years old lol

q7 v12 6 litre dual turbo diesel - you know you want it! 1000 Nm of torque and 493 bhp too! proper 4 wheel drive and loads of room in the back.

floor it and it will accelerate to 60 in 5.2 secs !!!!
top gear like it too!

he's been looking at loads of new motors to replace his porche and, in his onion, the q7 has crap passenger seating int he rear, the x5 looks good but is missing that certain "something", plus it's not available in a 7 seater configuration (which is why he's getting shot or the cayenne) and the only one he's found that have been good all rounders have been the mercs, but the ml's have been shit, even the 420 versions have been not a patch on being anywhere near quick

he's looking at a gl350 in the next few days
