I use a Tar n glue remover to dissolve it (leave for 30-50 seconds on cured paint only) , hot water and a soft cloth . If its really bad you may need to keep flowing hot water over it to soften it up before trying to fully remove. Try the hot water first.

HOT water is a must, as above ^^, if you use cold water it wont remove it and you rubbing will scratch the paintwork!

I would soak first, then it should just literally fall away, and you can remove with a sponge etc.

Remove it as soon as you see it. It can damage paintwork very quickly.

Lots and lots of water will break it down but it can fuck the paint within a very short space of time depending on what the bird has consumed

Apparently bird "lime" is a mixture of both piss AND shit and it's the piss that eats the paint

I try nip it in the bud before it sets but I must admit I've done that on occasion with my old Focus. The ST hasn't been pooped on yet so will avoid blasting it!

Correct, as pee is acidic, but there again I think poo is to an extent as well, I think.

Default Bird shit

We use a heat gun at work obviously you need to take your time but it does work, we use it on jags, range rovers etc and it does the trick.

As others have said warm water pored over will get fresh stuff off easy but if its dried let it soak with a wet kitchen roll on then lift the kitchen roll and rinse with warm water.

here's a link that says it;s nothing to do with the alkaline properties of pooh /wee
it's to do with the lacquer and heat and optical diffraction
the answer is to not let it dry wipe it off when it's fresh

Interesting link , i,m wondering though say during the cold months that theory still 'sticks' excuse the punt , the expansion of the paints surface wouldnt happen but im reckoning if bird pooped on my bonnet but not removed sooner or later it,ll affect the area....or maybe not hmm

Olive oil , i will give that a go cheers Tony.

Autoglym active insect remover works for me! I also make sure it is HOT! before I put it on.

However I recommend a really good air rifle to discourage them from shitting on the car in the first place! Magpies and pidgins make HUGE ones, and if they have been eating the purple berries can take the paint off down to the bare metal (big thing on the Mazda forums)... my poor neighbor had this on his 1 year old car!
