i've got a 52 plate ford mondeo 1.8lx petrol which has developed a smoking problem initially, the emmission shot through the roof and started smoking when held at revs. i have done a compression test and all four cylinders came back with 14bar (200psi) i have serviced the engine with new filters all round and renew plugs, leads and coil pack. i have also found the vacuum actuator had detached itself and resecured it as temp measure whilst waiting for new part. i have also carried out an engine oil flush prior to filter replacement and just when i though the problem was resolved it has developed an intermitnat misfire and the white grey smoke aslo now has a hint of blue smoke..

a friend had a code reader reader which prompted the replacemnt leads and coil pack. (fault codes p0301 to p0304 which are related to cylinder misfire)

any suggestions would be much appreciated

thanks

after what has been a busy christmas, i have managed to sort some of the issues out regarding the fault. removing, checking and cleaning th egr valve seems to of worked although now the smoking isn't as excessive the engine appears to tick over a little on the high side (1000 - 1100rpm) and the temp gauge goes up the the centre whilst stationary but drops right back down to cold when driving, are the engine electronics compensating for what it thinks is a cold engine? how difficult is it to change the thermostat on the 1.8 petrol duratech engine? thanks for your help so far.
