Default sandblast cabinets ,whats the story

fellow restorers ,i am thinking of buying a sandblasting cabinet to do all the bits i need,i have a few cars in need of rebuild so it would probably be better for me to buy one instead of running to the blasters all the time
i have a new 200litre ingersol rand compresser thats upto providing the air so now i need a cabinet thats big enough to take at least larger alloy wheels with comfort

if anyone has a setup could you point me in the right direction please

CFM is all you need to run a blast cabinet, the smaller ones start at £100.

I've got one of these

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MAGNUM-IND...item2eb2c4e15c

It's a Chinese-made cabinet, but a decent size without being massive. I'd seen good reviews online for the price and I'd got quite a few little blast cleaning jobs that needed doing and it would have cost me more than that to get them done by someone else so thought I'd try it and if I got enough use out of it I could always buy something bigger and better later on, but I've had plenty of use out of it and it's a good cabinet, especially for that money.

I'd already got a huge compressor, so no worries there. The blast media runs through and doesn't require changing very often.

I'ev also got one of their pot sand blasters too for larger jobs and it's also very good for a cheap price.

200 litre means nowt mate its all about the size of the pump and motor bolted to it......cfm is the figure you need and tbh with a small blast cabinet wheels could take quite a while to do.My mate refurbs them and uses 60cfm and a large professional cabinet and a stubborn wheel can still take a while to do

Unless doin small stuff mate you will struggle to run a blaster at a reasonable rate...see if you can stretch to a duplex or tandem compressor as you get double the output ie around 30cfm but all on single phase..You will need a good 30 amp supply to run one

I don't know much about compressor stats TBH, I know it stated you need at least a 3hp compressor to use it effectively. Mine is 12hp I think, but that's about all I know without looking.

I think most wheels would fit, but you might struggle with the larger alloys as it leaves little room to manouvre. I got 15 inch van wheel to do without much of an issue. It didn't take too long to do the wheel, but obviously if you were refurbing wheels as a business, you'd want something bigger that could do the job quicker, but for personal use I've found it fine.

You can use all types and grades of blast media, but I generally use a medium black grit which I bought from Frost.

if you got a fair bit to do get a blaster with a blast pot on it it wil take less time to do a job
like wheel's ect

i'am running a 3 phase on a converter that run's to 30 fuse in the fuse board it's a 10 hp 7.5 kw compressor and runs fine ,but like every thing its money

anyone seen a aquablast my mate got one thats a nice bit of kit and a nice finish
