I don't like Cliffords at all as i was sold one as state of the art security 15 years ago and it didn't save an old car from being used in an armed robbery and then burnt to nothing
Firstly, look on the unit and see what Clifford it is.
If it is a Concept 50 or 50X, carefully remove it and bin it. If it has Sense & Tell, carefully remove it and put it on eBay.
If it is a Concept 300 (or Comeback 300 as they are known in the trade), VERY carefully remove it and crush it to death.
Anything else, let me know and I can probably sort out the coding, options, etc... for you as I used to install these and Toad alarms back when the G4 range was new.
As said above, most of the problems are down to poor installers. My 4x4 Saff has the complete catalogue fitted pretty much and never so much as peeps out of turn, always opens and shuts for me and does exactly what it says on the tin. I have seen installers fit the equivalent of mine in about a day, I took 3 days to fit it properly, and so that nothing looks out of place.
At the same time, I have seen installers fit other Cat 1 alarms in 30 minutes (all connections easy to get at obviously), and have even seen a Cat 1 alarm on a MK6 RS2000 where everything was attached to the fusebox and even the main power was just pushed under a relay connection. Strangely, that alarm was always playing up until I ripped it out and fitted it properly for him.

great advice ian and thanks for the offer mate its appreciated greatly ,im going to the garage to have a look and will report back shortly
What model as well? PM me if you want to keep it quiet.
I have a Clifford concept 650 mk1 fitted to my fiesta and its spot on, but then again I was/am a qualified auto spark and fitted it myself correctly.
I think most of the problems with any alarm/tracker/etc is poor installation.

I've had a Clifford 600 fitted to my 3 Door since 2003 and never had a problem with it, although the Black Jack feature can get on your tits after awhile.

I even fitted the 1 in my 5 myself and never had a problem.
My dad had a toad fitted to his car and its crap.

I have had a Clifford 650 on mine for 7 years. Not had any problem at all. I have a cobra on my saff. Which I prefer but only fue to the fob being better designed.
The Clifford fob, too big & bulky and buttons too easy to press. The amount of times I've come out the cinema after being sat down with them in my jeans and the cars open!

Friend of mine had a clifford with remote start installed in her clio. It worked perfectly for a couple of years until one day it eventually would not start. I went over and it took me ages to work it out. Basically the installer had removed the imobiliser chip from the key and taped it behind the steering wheel cowling to trick the car into thinking the key is there for the remote start to work. Over time the sellotape had dropped off and the chip was down behind the dash. I'm sure that wasn't the way it was supposed to have been done lol
I've always had Clifford's as a good mate of mine is a Clifford's specialist
As said its all down to poor fitting if they are shit
The Clifford also has many good extra features

It should have had a spare key put into a transponder case (Clifford accessory) which sits elsewhere behind the dashboard or similar. The alarm detects the remote start sequence, puts a signal out to the transponder box which activates and allows the transponder chip in the key to be passed, via aerial lead, to the steering barrel aerial. The car thinks that the key is in the ignition and the car is able to be started. Doing it this way allows the original factory immobiliser to be retained and the Clifford transponder box used to be around Ł20.
Typical bodge type of way of doing things.

Photo shamelessly stolen from google images:

It's a little 2 button key pad you have to put a code into everytime you start the car or open a door.
So if you get dragged out of it or even if someone has the keys they wont beable to drive it, well not for very long you get 30 seconds to put the code in and if you don't it kills the engine locks all the doors and sets the alarm off.

I have a " Concept 300" and have never had a problem with it, bar replacing the siren (common problem)
I do however find it to be power hungry, I currently write this with a flat battery, the car has only been left a month!
I may well replace, if I do I will be avoiding all the bells and whistles I currently have.

Also, once charged, is your LED slowing to half its normal rate after 24 hours of being left alone.
What accessories do you have on it as well?
Once you get some power to the car, put it in valet mode before your disconnect the battery to charge it as Cliffords should always be put into valet so as to avoid any potential static overloads or spikes once reconnected.

big thanks to ian ,he has put me right over a few pms
i am going to get a auto electriian who comes highly recommended to have a look at it over the next few days when he can fit me in .if he thinks the install is done correctly a decision will be made .
if he recomends something more up to date or in keeping with the use or non use which is more likely to be the case[
]i will certainly listen to what he has to say
thanks for the input chaps
