Default Horn not working - MOT soon

Hi everyone,

The horn on my Ford Fiesta Zetec 1.25 (2000) MK5 does not work.
All looks okay on the actual horn and the fuse looks okay...

My MOT is around 3 weeks ago..
How shall I proceed? Try to fix it myself, or get it done at the MOT?

Thanks in advance.

test the horn 1st off (disconnect terminals on horn and run a live and earth from battery to horn if it sound then its ok) if it works then trace the wires back or could be a loose connection in steering wheel

If money's tight, for mot purpose you could fit a temp flick switch and wires straight to horn. This will pass an mot thus giving you the luxury of time to sort it properly.

There is no way you can possibly say the horn is ok just by looking at it!

The first thing to do is to listen and see if you can hear the relay "Click" when you depress the horn switch, if so then the problem is most likely the horn itself.

Just keep an air horn in the car at all times.

try what doga-ot said just to see if horn is working then get a circuit tester on the conector or wire if rusty, and get some one to press the horn, check fuses? normaly when horn dont work its a bad earth.corroded conector ,had this happen on 2 of my escorts. horn earths to body when operated.take it of clean up body and horn where it bolts to the body

Like I say the first thing to do is to see if he can hear the relay clicking, not only will this verify the fuse and relay to be working, but confirms the problem to be after the relay, i.e. horn or wiring, more likely the former I suspect.

A neighbor had the same problem on a MK5 a few years back, which I resolved, the horn itself was the guilty culprit, I fitted a new one and all was well, maybe a common problem?
