Default Golf GTi with SMG or Audi S3

Looks like my job will be changing pretty soon and my commute means I will need to change my A4 as it,already has high miles. Can't bring myself to have a diesel and want something quick from the box that I can track. After looking around I'm thinking Audi S3 (with some cash for a few mods, or the Golf GTi with SMG box. (and cheeky remap).

Anybody able to offer advice, experience on either?

If your going mk5 Golf with DSG watch out for the mechatronics. steering racks, cut of valve, pcv valves, coil packs

S3 nice car to drive, looks great but does feel dull to drive.

Ive owned both and the Golf wins it for me with a remap for pure fun when driving

Id have the S3 over the golf. Love the look and sound of the S3. RS3 sounds unbelievable with the 5 pot. Click the vid and skip to 1:00, turn up your speakers. If it needs to be practical, id go with the Golf. The S3 will have a substatially smaller boot. The boot floor will be raised to accomodate the rear diff etc. My mates R32 boot was tiny.

Boot space matters as I'm a golfist so need to get my clubs in the back.

Id try them both before you buy, dont think either of them have very wide boot, but like I say, the S3 will be worse than the golf. The Boot on my Focus ST225 was loads bigger than my mates golf.

Shame as they are unreal value for money, may not have the image of the golf or S3, but they are shocking value, starting from 4k now.

I like the Golf and the S3, I'd have a white 5dr MK5 GTi in Candy White, big wheels, manual with tartan seats. A simple remap and it's one hell of a car IMO

In the real world the current shape S3 has nearly as much load space as the mk5 Golf. Ed30 is an awesome car, not sure about the SMG tbh, my brothers is a manual. New S3 out soon.

Won't be a new one mate, looking about the £5-6k mark I think. My dad thinks I should grow up and buy a 1.4 Mazda. Erm..... I think not!

S3 would be the 8L chassis

Golf

I'm really swaying towards the Golf now but not sure I want to part with that much for a daily. Need to do some thinking as my A4 really owes me nothing at all.

Still hankering for the S4 though which is a bugger as I think that would be thirsty to do a round commute to Kettering everyday

No storage for extra cars mate as already had that thought. Looks like I may have an issue with the Escorts storage as my mum is making noises of moving
