Default Zetec Turbo 105 / 115 PS cam swap timing

When mixing zetec 2 litre cams with the 1.8's, do you time the cams up the normal way as if they were a matching set ?

Cheers

I should imagine so as full lift will still need to be achieved at the same point on both engines, havin said that its only what I think so don't take it for gospel

ideally you'd have a set of vernier pulleys on to fine tune the timing between the two.

What happens if you don't? Would it run like a dog to factory settings or idle / run fine but not quite make the power?

Or

Would it be better just to fit a full set of 1.8 cams ?

They run ok, a mate of mine is using a mix of 130 xr3i (rs1800) and 2.0 cams on standard cam pulleys an it runs fine, obviiously for fine tuning you will need verniers

Think the 130 1.8 and 2.0 cams are pretty similar spec so maybe wouldn't be as noticeable if at all.?

Lots of folk say fit the 105 / 115 cams but struggling to find anyone who's done it on a silver top ZT

To be honest mate I don't know much about it but my mate is adament that the 2.0-1.8 130 cam is the best mix

Ideally a turbo engine should have less valve overlap otherwise it blows boost out the exhaust, an NA engine needs the overlap to encourage scavenging and fuller cylinder filling, they'll work either way but if possible you'll want to trim back the overlap as it should hold boost better and make a bit more for same amount of boost.

haha seriously, can't find anyone, well apart from someone with a Focus RS who's dumped 1.8 cams x2 but thats a black top plus iirc 1.8 and RS Focus cams are identical on those anyway lol

Plenty of talk 'about' swapping them on the forum but i don't want to pull the engine apart to fit cams which is going to either do not much or even worse, make it run like a dog.

Been trying to find the exhaust cam lift and duration for the 1.8 as this would give a bench mark against proper turbo ones but again drawing a blank

Why would you need verniers when the standard cam pulleys don't have a keyway?

because how can you easily determine how much you swing them by when all fitted up?
answer is you can't, for setting with dti to a specific overlap you don't need verniers however.
i fit them to make adjustments to see how i can move power band around to get it how i want it without having to open the cam cover and hold the cams whilst adjusting the pulleys.
