What is the best way to remove wiper scratches etc?

 

Its a lot of hassle, normaly a new screen is the best way.

Toothpaste, not the gell type old school white stuff.
A detailer told me to try it on my focus where someone had stuck one of those "don't park here again ya tit" stickers on the rear window and it left lots of scratches once removed.
Took a few goes but it definitely made an improvement.

 

T cut can also be good, i found it get alots of scratches out .

 

use toothpaste as above, is basically a gentle abrasive. in a pinch knifesmiths use it to help polish and strop the blades

 

Tried the toothpaste and it wasn't much good.
Anybody tried "jewellers rouge???" Its a powder you can mix to a paste, used for polishing gold and silver....

 

I,ve got some but haven;t managed to try it yet. My friend got me some from ebay.

 

to be honest mate non of the above will take wiper scratches out... its a new screen im affraid i see it day in day out.

Id be interested to hear how people get on, the Mrs mini cooper 'vert has scratches in the rear screen, it looks like off a carwash. AFAIK you cannot replace just the glass on its own, its a new roof job! even if i could just dull them down a little would be an improvement

 

Any of the Cerium oxide products will work. Probably best to just get Cerium oxide powder itself, mix to a milk like consistency with water and apply with a small diameter felt pad mounted on an arbor. Keep the drill speed below 1200 rpm and keep the pad wet. We used this system frequently on glass panels, it's slow but it does work.

 

What is the difference in the grades? I have very thin scratches i want to remove.

 

jewellers rouge will get fine scratches out, but if you can feel them with your thumb nail you wont get them out.

mix the jewellers rouge with window cleaner to a milky paste, i use a cork block to apply it

 

spoke to a detailing company, get the felt pads for glass, a polisher da or rotary, then i use metal polish and glass polish mixed together, put plenty on, takes a while to do it, but it works

 

Interesting about mixing the products together. I have jewellers rouge but since storing it some has escaped out the bag it seems to stain badly? Is why ive not tried tbh it looks messy lol.

My cabriolet has window wiper scratches and its a pain in the arse lol! ive tried the glass polish etc but it didnt work! il get a new screen when i restore it!
