Default Stolen cars, mainly new Fords.........

right, hope im not touching a nerve here sorry if youve had one taken

in Essex theres a LOT of new Fords from mk2 Foci RS/ST, transits, recovery trucks etc

now these are being taken within 30 seconds after forced entry, driven away.

one of my other techs at work lost their `10 plate transit full of tools and has lost his job as they dont belive him etc

how are they doing it?

i know coding keys is easy enough with IDS programming but its not a 30sec job!

been told they have a plug that goes into the OBD and bypasses the PATS, was developed by a reposession firm in the states for US stuff but works here and can be bought legaly for £300GBP,

the rate that things are going missing the UK and Fords are gonna be fucked, propperly fucked!

ive moved my OBD plug on my van away from the normal position with a lot of "fake" wires si its not easy seen

anyone shed light on this?

not a Myth as i know its going on and its Rife where i am

surely if the security systems have been compromised this badly, the manufacturer is liable for rectifying the weakness under a recall type system???

Id imagine its a software reprogram needed to lock out the OBD pats bypass.

oh not to mention that thatcham would shit a brick and revoke their rating of the affected alarm systems and thus the cars will be virtually uninsurable with manufacturer security.

Also any car that doesn't use a key send out as well as receiving signal with the right tools you can write a key from 10m away ! I know BMW and vauxhall Vxr both suffer bad with this problem

There is a Pats by pass unit which can be had for about £30, Its pre loaded with firm ware to disable the PATS.
Connects to the wires within the steering colum and it over rides the PATS,
No key needs to be present to start the car, The EML light flashes though

Oh and your right it comes from the states

ill try it on my van tomorrow

but ive never thought a slide hammer was a good idea myself, noisy and bound to slip, i used one to pulll send out of a panel once and didnt think it woudl be man enough

ive broken a fair few cars and plenty ive bought with lost keys so know its easy to get an old motor going with no hassles even when immobilised and peopel have always been attracted to rs fords from the shadier side of things (i bet plenty of people on here have stories to tell!) but these new motors are amazing to me, i am always interested when they show ports finding 100k cars in containers covered in old tyres, amazing

probably best with a modded disclock and a hidden switch like the old days lol.
can get lots of machines from china for less than £100 quid that reprogrames keys via the obd and have been out for years. And can also plug a tracker blocker in to cigarette light just incase its got one of them aswell.Shocking stuff really.

we had our 57 plate fiesta zetec stolen the other day too, thought it was a reasonably safe car, apparently not...
funny thing was it's the most boring car on the drive, with my mk1 escort my brothers 3dr & my dads 530 bmw, guess its easier to get rid of though...

its getting too easy by the looks of it.

A friend of mine was telling me about loads of new BMW.s going missing like the one in the video.

How do these thiefs get hold the new keys.Do they just go to main dealers and buy a blank key then.Surely the main dealers shoukd ask for details of the car and the owners.

Stolen new BMWs has been going strong for ages now, loads of threads on pistonheads and E90post about stolen 3 series and other BMW cars. With my ST I'm conscious of its safety and I was thinking that if thieves have the balls nowadays to come in and threaten you for the keys, a disklok or security post isn't going to stop them, they'll threaten you for the keys for those too. So essentially my security is car gets blocked in the garden and keys are secure. I think essentially the largest deterrent is not how much security you have on the vehicle, but making it as difficult as possible for thieves to steal by blocking a quick getaway.

anchor point on drive... and a big heavy chain / padlock that should slow them down......
even then you have to hear them, and ask them nicely to stop, preferably leaving some ID or wait for the police to show up!

The other problem is that it seems to be groups of them so if you do anything you are not likely to come off well .....

BMW won't admit any kind of liability that their security systems can be easily compromised, a few have tried that route. The fact is, it has been proven repeatedly that they are.

I've had 10-15 transits go walkies in the london / essex area all stolen the same way with NO damage to exterior or igntion locks.
they lower dash trim is always removed and the OBD port exposed.

5 have turned up in the same trading est after having the sliding doors cut open (extra slam locks fiited to the back of the van) and the safes emptied.

i have been in discussion with ford and supplied them with a ignition barrel with summit snapped off in it as they got disturbed and legged it.

BMW are refusing to admit that they have an issue, where as Audi are currently working alongside the police as they want to put a stop to the thefts and don't want there name tarnished!!

a friend of mine had his mk5 zetec s fiesta nicked few weeks ago and sunday just gone they attempted to steal his st500 fiesta too.cut alarm siren loom but were disturbed and legged it.puzzling thing is there was no signs of forced entry.havent a clue how they get in.ive also had a tip from a friend to disable the obd port which i have done now so any machine thats plugged into the obd port wont connect

I have a 2000 A4, ok bit older than the stuff we're talking about, but the immo stuff hasnt changed much.

When i bought it the key casing was damaged, so i attempted to transfer the internals over to a new casing and broke the transponder chip.

Using a £30 ebay tool and a new blank transponder, i had plugged the laptop in, powered up the car and had the key coded and car running in minutes.

Now obviously i had the physical key blade, so i was able to open the door and turn on the ignition without damaging the door or barrel, but i was still fairly amazed that it was that easy.

What does surprise me is that a lot of the newer cars seem to be stolen without damage to the external locks. The clip of the BMW above for instance, they seem to manage to get in without setting off the cars alarm system.

Apparently BMWs alarm has a blind spot so they smash the window somehow without setting off the alarm and can get to the OBD port without setting the ultrasonics off due to an area of no coverage.

As Sean says though, its the getting in without any damage thats really puzzling.

I've recently bought good old fashioned steering locks for my cars and hidden a fuel pump switch on the BMW for when it's parked outside.
