Default My saturday morning in pictures

Agreed to replace the clutch and DMF on a mates mk4 golf.
Never done one on these cars before. Bloody easy to work on............

He was going to go for the G60 flywheel and vr6 clutch conversion
however he needed the car back on the road ASAP so he just bought
a new DMF with clutch, pressure plate and release bearing..................

Car with the front raised and wheel off

Battery tray removed to give better access

Gear box out after 1 and a half hours.
Notice the confused look on my mates face. He hasnt ever tackled a job
like this before. It was all rather exciting for him

Old assembly from the top of the bay

Old clutch, Release beaing and pressue plate removed.
The clutch was wrecked, The cover and flywheel were really blue and scored

Old DMF awaiting removel

New assembly fitted, Notice my home made flywheel locking tool.

Although it was a really crude tool it worked perfectly

The car back on all 4's and running under its own steam once again.

Thanks for looking

I didnt even disturb the wishbones like many people say you have to.
The drive shaft can be tied to the anti roll bar once the inner bolts are removed.

DMF
pressure plate
Release bearing
and friction plate

Price is Ł390 however I have a trade account with EuroParts and

i hate doing jobs like this on the deck & out the front of my house, if something goes wrong or you've got the wrong part you're buggered!

i've said no to so many clutch jobs & geabbox changes, give me a ramp anyday!

edit, fair play for doing it tho!

i did my bora last year, loads of room to work with and piss easy, even on your own.
it's handy they design the flywheel and clutches to go in as one so you don't need to align them
solid flywheel is the way forwards though, bit of chatter, but liveable.

I've never heard of a dual mass failing on these, so don't see why every one changes them ?

They do fail however failure wasnt the reason for changing this,
The flywheel was badly scored and it was cheaper to buy a complete modual unit than
it was to buy a 3 piece clutch.

Cheers for the kind comments people.

no worries, i dont think i could work on cars full time, i think i'd soon lose the love for cars if i HAD to do it for a job. At the moment i just tinker and do the odd small job for people. Dont think i'd have the patience to do it full time!
