having gone through a few cheap units and failing, the way to go is a double ball bearing unit now.
the engine is forged and cam'd, plenty of fuel supply and clutch is well specified.
so i'm looking for a 400bhp turbo with minimal lag, but a little more headroom for pub talk figures is preferrable so it's not on the limit.
off what i know and that is little, a GT3071 would be the right area, what housing as i've been running 0.63 ones for the past year.
basically tell me what i need as i'm just at the end of my tether now with this.
cheers

i'm my tuner/mapper, that's the challenge really, i know of some gt30's making 415bhp on a similar setup, obviously varies from engine to engine of course.
basically i don't want to go over a grand, even that is pushing towards the divorce courts lol!
Trending Topics
I have an Owen developments Gt28R billet wheel, race roller bearing etc, it may not quite reach 400bhp though, I'd have to check housings, I'd take a grand for it, that's a bit cheaper than I paid trade

either way some more detail on housing sizes would be great, with a billet wheel that pretty much makes it a gtx.
400bhp is just a rough estimate, if it pulls low down well then that may well be a good compromise.

hmmm, about a grand is where i'm heading at top whack, is it internally or externally gated?

pics and any more details welcome, i'm working towards a gtx2867r now, how would this compare to one of those?
mate your wanting to run 400bhp in a little xr2 lol! it would be insanely fast BUT spin spin spin in the lower gears..i would aim for a lower power like 320ish on a GT28RS turbo.. little less power maybe a little more grip imo

spin isn't too bad in the dry with the geometry set how it is and the FRS gearbox with 16's to be honest, i've just been running 1.8BAR through a t3/t4 unit and that didn't hang around (didn't last long either lol!).
400horses isn't unheard of, i'd be happy over 350 to be fair, but i do fancy a top speed run at some point, mk2 xr2 record isn't much over 150mph, if i had the bottle i could improve on that quite a bit.
the right turbo would have minimal lag anyhow, so very useable power.

i was surprised at how cheap some of the quotes turbosytems were giving for turbo's and he does all them new fangled billet jobbys (im a t4 big lag lover, good things come to those who wait lol)

Ill keep my eye on this as I would like to go either GT3071R with a .82 housing or GTX2867R with a 1.06 housing.
What I want to know is what sort of EGTs and back pressures people are seeing having to run the smaller billet turbos up to make the same power as the bigger none billet items.

it's a laugh, been to 145mph so far and the thing was way too light, on a proper runway is should be more stable.
clarke, my initial thoughts were the gt3071r as that's what you have been running, just been offered one, just need to know spec, also waiting for wilky and a few other places now.

/\ seen that one, with postage and duty, because i always get stung
that'd be Ł1060 ish without an exhaust housing.
been offered a gt28r owen developments one, just need to know more spec on it like exhaust housing, it's been suggested to look at an 0.82 or a 1.04 IIRC
also been offered the gt3071r for Ł650 unused, so tempted by that, although with most of these, i'll need to change flange on manifold but no biggie.

i think it is the one to go with, just got to figure how to get the piping in for the 4" anti-surge ported inlet housing now. it's massive, comes with loads of parts though too, just waiting on spec of exhaust housing, 0.63 will ding dang do, cant be any laggier than the t04b or the t3/t4 one i have had fitted.

/\ this man has got it in one, why settle for less, i could have dropped the spec of the engine for lower power.
cheers for the heads up gary, just waiting on the finer details now.
owen developments can't get close for anything less than Ł1300, the gt28 i've been offered is only a gt2860rs with a billet wheel, if the wheel was a 68 i'd have gone for it, but will only make 350bhp, enough i know, but no room for improvement really, at least a gt3071r will be good for 450bhp proven.

the lads come back tome on the gt3071r, it's a t25 housing on an ar of 0.64, so probably too small. Ł650 is a good price, but by the time i add a bigger housing into the mix, it's racking up further again.

hmm, seems this is going to be all wrapped up on tuesday, gt3071r t3 0.63 housing on it off clarke, used but a fair price.
so if you want a 350bhp ish turbo, the one i'm not going for is available, but has all you need to get it installed apart from pipework.
