Default 1.8t audi engine into mk1 (1.8t knowledge needed)

Some of you will be saying no dont do it i know.. But me and my brother have been thinking.

He had an a3 1.8t sport on the road. Fmic, induction, decat, forge actuator set at 1bar and a remap..est realistic figures 210-220bhp or somewhere around that.

The car was parked and and a tractor reversed into the back of it and writ it off! So he just got the car back from the insurers so he was asking me if i thought it was possible to put the running gear from his a3 into the mk1.

At first i thought dont be silly..but then after seeing the amount of different engines people have been putting in the old cars i dont see why not?
I know there is a company that do a kit to run a mt75 gearbox to the 1.8t engine but the kit alone is near £700! So the idea i had was this..(this is where i need help)
I know vag do AWD gearboxes...and i know these can be converted to Rwd by welding the front drive difs.

How hard do you think it would be or is there a company that could make one prop shaft from the vag box to the english rear axle?

I know other work will be envolved with fitting this box like gear stick position, gearbox mounts, 1.8t propshafts also have a center bearing if i mind right.

any help is good help

If you can source the K04 turbo'd version you'll have 225bhp to start with, and anything around 260-270 with a simple remap. I had a TT with the 1.8t and it was a really nice engine, shame the car itself was a bit boring though. If the k03 version is all you can get, and its cheap/free then go for it - will still provide good power, just runs out of top end grunt.

Quite a few kit cars now use the 1.8t engine, so maybe worth contacting some of them as they could probably help or supply parts you need.

When i search on google allot of the threads that come up are using the mt75 or type 9 gearbox.. i cant justifie spending £700 just on a clutch/flywheel/spacer. You can source awd gearboxes for £120-160 then the price of a custom propshaft. All the welding and cutting of the gearbox tunnel will be done by ourselves.

To be honest if the engine was running 180-200bhp id be happy..more than enough power to the rear wheels
