Default been crashed into

goes like this
3 lanes
left lane soon to block (roadworks ahead)
right lan merges into middle lane (normally)
im in the middle, rhs merging into middle and its 1st gear and traveling less than 5mph or standing
i allow a red escort to come in front of me from rhs and now its my turn to i proceed
van to my rhs decides he too will proceed but he is further back so not my issue

as i continue straight he hits my drivers side rear wheel arch with his bumper (my scenic his vito)

i get out a steh vehicles are now locked together
i go to his door 'you hit my fuckin car'
he says no he didnt
this repeats several times until i take his keys and walk back round to the damage and instruct him to follow (he says he will cll teh cops as i took his keys and i invite him to do so) keys go under his bumper
he follows and umms and arrs and finally he aploogises and stats its his fault (should i mention this to his insurance?????)

1 million pictures taken
damage is minimal- his bumper/wing scratched but its a van soo.....

mine- arch pushed in a tad and paint taken off the arch and bumper
i got his details and gave him mine, he offered some cash but as i know these old cars get written off then ill get paid and keep the salvage (i had an escort si catC'd for a headlamp!!! they wont fix and paint my scenic 1/4 panel) so i turn down his 50 and tell him i expect ill get 500 and salvage so no point taking his nifty, he pulls his van off my can and more pics then its time to part ways his saying it will be knock for knock (as he is leaving pfff- pretty clearly not as he his behind the driver view and i'd been kind enough to allow the previous car from his lane to join mine)

so whats the opinion?
ill take any (except about my choice of school run car as 45mpg is good enough for me and i'd just collected a large swing of the roofrack which is very handy )

my car is 105k 2000 model 1.616v scenic so i expect no repairs and a pay out of around 5-700

Is it worth losing no claims for? Even non fault will hike your premiums, you will lose in the long run! Have you checked to see on ASKMID to see if the van is even insured?!

we have protected ncb but have been crashed into plenty and never had the premium go up
he was the company director and its a big co so no dramas there.
the last one was her escort si mk5b tescos manager reversed into it in a freelander and broke the headlamp and they paid us and we kept the car and ran it another year and outed it all told
point is it wasnt dented and now it is and it was his fault therefore its going thru
i would have let it ride but to say he hadnt hit me when out bumpers were interlocks its just stupid
a farmer his her old escort bonus (all turbo bar engine) he paid us Ł150 to keep stumn but i paid Ł50 for the car t+t'd so not so much of an issue and i filled and painted it out of a can! looked really good considering

What's that?? When you look at a car you shit your pants and crumble to the ground crying like a nothing..... ooooh, few quid in that mate.

Just kidding, I don't like the whole 'claim culture' since it costs me money each year in inflated premiums to cover it!!

Cheers,
Grant

even on "protected" NCB id be very skeptical about your insurance not going up for a non-fault accident.

almost ALL insurers for some fucking gay pathetic reason view any non fault accident as a higher risk.

Your premium may not have gone up, but it also may not have gone down as much compared to no accidents.

for most insurers youd pay well over the cars Ł700 value in higher premiums over the next 4/5 years.

defo his fault but by law you must tell your insurer and if his insurer contact yours and you haven't reported it, it will look bad on you should it have to go to court to be sorted.

cover your ass and report it ASAP!!

I would say he will be at fault as he as changed into your lane and hit your car.

You may have protected NCD but, next year, your policy goes up and you ask why, 'all policies have gone up sir'.

You phone another insurance firm and before you can get a price, have to answer 'any accidents in the last 5 years' and so they may well adjust the policy regardless of ncd?

You need to notify your insurer mate. If he reports it and claims you were at fault and you only tell them as his insurers instigate a claim against them you'll look guilty and they will bum you for it. It's shit but saddly that's how it is

Even if not your fault and all was sorted and no need for insurance involvement you STILL have to tell them.

Your insurance won't go up either. I was worried about this after I was rear ended last year and my premium went down by Ł350 after claiming on someone else's insurance.

/LOL
why so many people thinking i didnt contact the insurance it was hit at 8 last night and she called them this morning
woman on the phone said he said it wasnt his fault but clearly it was from the pics BUT
they want to fix it :sad face:
when people are saying knock it out and get on with life im more than happy to do so but i wanted to see the value back 1st, no point going from a 700 car to a 200 car all dented up and seeing no value from it
quoter said Ł300 to repair, i would have run it up against a wall.!!!
i was hoping a quick payout and salvage kept so i could have a car bumped but paid and be happy for a year then out it for a few hundred and get a newer one (sadly newer ones have smaller boots hence we havent yet)

Bit more like it but actually it's policy specific whether you tell them or not as I never told mine when my Beemer got hit a few years ago and that turned into a Ł20000 plus claim.

Sometimes it's better not too involve your insurance company,I know a boy who lost about Ł1500 cos his company started throwing their weight around.

HOWEVER

In this case, inform them ASAP as the prick sounds as though he's gonna attempt to blame you.
Photos are good but get your descriptions in fast and deal with one person in the claims department.
I know your not stupid but be rely polite and decent to the person you deal with as this makes all difference to them.
Personal injury is up to you but if your not hurt don't bother,it'll bite you on the arse, although its obvious your not a liar.
Claim for everything else though, loss of time, phonecalls, time lost from work and so on,can add up to quite a few ŁŁŁ.
Had my transit written off a few years back, non fault, never affected my premium as its come down every year since apart from this one although that seems across the board.

I had a small knock at christmas, the woman admitted full liability to me and the police. Her insurance company rang me the next day about the damage and they actually advised me NOT to tell my insurance company!

Go figure.

Fair play, pretty conclusive that unless your cars rear wheel steered!!!

Amazed they offered to repair that,it should be new or pattern panels for insurance repairs,he'd have to be fillering that for that money.

If your not 100% happy with the repair make sure you keep hassling them, they may get pissed off and end up writing it off anyway!!!!
