Default 2007 onwards 2.0 tdci mondeos any probs?????

Finally got round to selling the scooby and the wifes 2001 mondeo tdci and have bought her a nice 2001 puma 1.7 (very impressed for the money) but i really want a new shape titanium x mondy and havnt heard the usual diesel horror stories so i thought i'd see if any one has any. I didnt have many on the old car and we had it 7 years ,clutch /flywheel and the usual caliper/handbrake issues but in all it was a good car. I have around 7 grand to spend but dont know if i'll be buying into trouble for that amount??????
Any way have a pic of the more door project to satisfy the looky lookies

Had an 08 Titanium 2.0 d estate for 8 months. Done 20k in it and it's spot on, no problems. World apart from my previous 04 model but not as economical, very nice to drive though.

Nicer to drive and be in? Have you driven both? We have a Golf Diesel pool car at work (and I've driven several others) The Golf is not a patch on a Mondeo Mk4 - particularly the new Golfs, they're incredible dull and ordinary.

The Mk4 is a great car, and much much more reliable than the Mk3. Ł7K will get you a decent condition TitX.

Bit wheezy tbh. 2.0 is the ideal engine in these. Generally reliable on our fleet, had one with a dodgy clutch new, another 2 blew taillight bulbs on a bi monthly basis. Otherwise pretty decent to be honest. Comfy drive, decent handling and huge inside. Much bigger than my MK3 and more solidly built too.

My dad is on his second mk4 mondeo 2.0 tdci.
First one was a 140 auto and is still going strong with 148k on it but it has just had about 2k spent on it at ford for a new timing belt, water pump, all new rear suspension and bushes plus other stuff.
The one he has got now is a 163 auto with around 40k ish (I think) other than a sensor failing its been faultless.
Really really nice cars to be in and they look pretty smart too in titx spec.

Definitely wait till a 2.0 comes along. The 1.8 is a bit of a dog in comparison.

The titx 1.8 I found turned out to be dodgy. Done a hpi on it and it has recorded mileage of 133,000 but is advertised as 84,000 and they have lost the logbook. It's on auto trader reg yj08cac just incase any one was tempted.... Sneaky bastids

I have had 4 Mk4 Mondeos (a new one each year) and they are absolutely superb IMHO. try to get one with the 6 speed box if you do a lot of motorway work as I do as it adds about 6MPG. The Mk4 Mondeo to a Mk3 is like a Granada was to a Cortina back in the day so spacious and comfortable. I got 42Mpg with a 5 speed and 47/48 with a six speed. Waiting for my new one on 1st Sept

Thats because it's as big as a Granada , so it's a class higher than the segment it's in really, which is good, what lies beneath is a Volvo S60, the "S Max" uses the same floorpan as well.

Not a car I am really into but the 5 pot Volvo engine did sway me and still does, they have glowing reviews as well and look well put together, and, as said, the Derv's are Peugeot engines so should be better than the MK3.

What's the difference to the X and the X Sport? Is it just body trim or the 2.5 petrol?

I've just ordered the 'Sport' grilles and front and rear spoilers. I already have the sport foglights too to go with it.

A Mk3? If so, injectors, injectors, injectors. If it's not had a receipt for replacement injectors and fuel pump at that mileage then walk away. Make sure you give it a good test drive and really boot it to make sure the glow plug light doesn't flash.

Also listen out for suspension noises. bot major aggro to fix, but a good haggling point. Having said that rear bushes can be expensive to replace.

There are a lot for sale, and a lot with lower mileage, so go into it with open eyes!

Will probably save the pics for the mag, depends on how chuffed I am when it's all done! Got the larger rear spoiler to fit to it too.

They do look nice.

Now I have one, although not an estate, I'll be keeping an eye on what you do with yours.

Then maybe do some to mine once Buying baby stuff is out the way, so may be 16-18 years time

What tell tale signs would injectors give. What are the issues with fuel pps injectors.
What does it mean if glow light flashes

They don't give much in the way of tell tales unfortunately, other than the car feeling down on power, or sounding very diesely (like a tractor) Which is kind of why you need to drive a few before buying one.

The main prob is that they're very expensive to fix, as if one injector goes, the rest will follow.

If the glow plug light flashes and the car goes into limp mode don't even think about it. The fix could be a simple fuel filter, or it could be something more serious and the car will never be the same again.

Have a good look at the receipts (I genuinely wouldn't consider one without a detailled history file) and be aware that some are money pits. Having said that, there are tens of of thousands of good 'uns out there.

If you do get one I'd strongly suggest checking out talkford.com, as there's a lot of Mk3 knowledge over there.
