Oil prices are down 25% to around $83 a barrel from a high of around $107 yet the price of fuel at the pump remains unchanged. We should be paying about £0.99 per litre to reflect market prices. I see no outrage let alone any discussion amongst tax federations, government, etc. about this rip-off. Is it just everyone's in the same bed together and don't give a rat's butt, or is it just a complete monopoly by oil companies and they can do whatever they please.

Sainsburys here was 126.9 this morning for unleaded, Asda right accross the road is at 129.9 and is usually cheaper, I check these whilst sitting in traffic most days on the way to work, i'm sure the Asda one will be cheaper tomorrow.

The price of fuel has extremely little to do with the price of the ingredients guys.
The refiner and the retail outlet share about 50p per litre between them, its no surprise they arent willing to drop this part of the pricing much.

would not be too bad if the goverment only charged VAT rates but their 60% if not more is what is killing transport firms and motorists

The cost of oil is so small when you take in consideration cost of refining, transporting, keeping a service centre where it's sold and research into making it better for engines and the environment. vat and the duty on fuel is killing the motorist, it would take only a couple of days of no fuel sales to hit a hard message back to the government, can you miss out on work for a couple of days though? chances are no, so we have to put up with it.
on the other hand, where would the extra revenue come from if duty was reduced significantly? there is no winning solution here in my opinion.

the pasty tax is miniscule in comparison to fuel duty

Yes we are being ripped off and there is nothing any of us can legally do about it.

It's a rip off. The government will come out and say they will "gt tough" with the petrol companies, but honestly they're just as bad for ripping us off.

I think the sad thing is, people wank themselves silly when petrol drops below 134.9ppl and it's welcomed/accepted as a great triumph... but in reality we're still getting heavily butt fucked, just that someone's decided to add a little lube into the equation, so that it doesn't seem so bad anymore.... and it won't be long until that lube runs out IMO.

Cheers,
Grant

Out of a £65 tank of fuel £1.20 profit goes to the oil company. According to the BBC not long ago anyway.

I work in the oil industry and the amount of outgoings an oil company has before they make a profit is frankly scary, the end product is the barrel of oil,off that there's whatever-60% duty?then all the transport, extraction, refining, exploration, silly wages, wastefulness of money, maintenance of assets, insurances, licences etc etc etc, they must sell a whore of an amount to make the profits they make.
It's definitely the govt that's screwing us over.
