Default Best engine to put in mk3 fiesta?

hey guys, i have a 1.1 mk3 fiesta which im just starting to put mods on, im thinking about putting a new engine in it in a few months time hopefully but not sure which engine to go for? was thinking of putting an xr2i engine in but would rather put something bigger in if possible?

zetec on carbs would be good. if your thinking of efi then loads more needed than just the engine

They are cheap and easy to get hold of. You can get good power out of them with out spending loads and there easy to work on

Depends on lots. Age, insurance etc etc...

2 litre Zetec works well and is so thrashable without turbo troubles. My 8v XR2i was more fun than my FRST despite being slower as it was so willing to take a beating .

so really im best off going for the 1.8 xr2i engine? (my original intention) but im quite new to this so any advice on the change itself if i were to go for a 2i lump would be much appreciated

Ironically you're probably better going for the bigger 2 litre as it's often cheaper to insure. The engin ehas come from a family/rep car rather than a hot hatch

thats a suprise, does the engine drop stright in or does it require a lot of modification?

Drops straight in on the same mounts as the 16v XR2i iirc and you reuse the BC or IB5 geargearbox. You'll need to swap over injection tank and lines etc. But it's all doable in a weekend.

Don't forget to make sure the brakes and suspension are also modified to cope with it all or it will end in tears.

2.3 is a bit much for me lol im only 20 and a 2L will already sting me on insurance,

and ok thanks for that oranoco, will be modding the brakes and suspension way before i swap the engine, gunna wait till my tax n mot r up then will get another car so can take the fez off the road and spend a good lot of time on the engine and other bits
