What too look for when buying a connect?
not much to check, but the tddi is a lot more stronger than the tdci.
a T200 can carry roughly 0.6ton
a T220 can Carry just over 0.8ton
75bhp ones are quite slow but drive fine after a remap

Definatly getting a tddi. If i can get a t220 i will.
I just wanted to no if theres any common problems to look out for when going to buy one?
Power isnt an issue i would think of a remap if i got a 75
Anything else?

Lots of threads here if you want to find them
The basics are driveshaft gaitors, canvas intercooler hoses, dash lights, tyres, tool kit (can't get the spare wheel off without one) but we've never really had any other issues with them
Some of them have had saggy seats when you get a fat man driving them and the lumbar support handles break way too easily

I work for the royal mail and we have a few of these in our fleet. There a really good van. Then only common faults i see are rear gearbox mount wears inner cv boots split.Theres a bit of a wiring loom for the alternator which clips to the radiator fans. The wires inside the plastic sheath rub through and cuts the wires lol.
There a bloody good van.In the 3 n a half years working there i have only seen us change 2 engines. We changed 1 cause it had a oil leak and the driver kept on going and the engine threw a con rod through the block. The bloody engine still ran though lol.

Engines and gearboxes are strong.Ive had a few where the roll pins in the gear selector snap.Thesse are easy to change thought.I think the bodys must be treated cause they dont rust like most fords do.
If you wanna go really high mileage, make sure the cambelt has been changed (later ones at 150k miles or 10 years, early models might have shorter intervals).
As said above, engine and gearbox are strong. Turbo or injector / pump failure is very rare compared to other modern diesel. It's the trusty Focus 1.8 Diesel engine after all...
Make sure the front and rear wipers work as both seem to have a habit of seizing. And listen for any squealing engine noises, might be the v belt tensioner on its way out.
Mines swb but i think its just personal preference really as for what you may need it for
Tbh i wanted as low a mileage as i could get at the time in my price bracket , i got an 05 with 28k on the clock and its now just gone past 60k with no issues
Ps make sure you get windscreen cover on your insurance as ive had 2 stone chips since ive had it

I have a 75PS TDDi with over 168k on the clock and it runs fine. Rear bulbs do tend to blow every couple of months, so I keep spares in the glove box
Body work does appear to have been well treated to prevent rust! I dink'd the rear door, down to the metal almost, and it has not rusted yet, that was 3 years ago. If that had happened to my mk5 Escort, it would have rusted to bits by now!

I can live with the bulbs Lol.
I'll probably be getting the 75 version as im not one for speed anyways! I would probably get it chipped as people say it improves fuel econemy.

the van looks like a pig, but the van still going strong. its got about 160k on.
think how strong and reliable your escort van is.
Thats what a tddi connect is like.
Ive had a pack of bricks in the back of mine, Approx 1.5t a bit naughty but the van drove ok considering

I think they are really nice vans aswell modern and with a few tweaks cool too!
I never thought you'd beat an escort engine but i suppose they are probably not all that different

some have 5 doors (one side sliding) some have 6 (2 side sliding) and some only have 4 (no side roods at all) so you can have a variation in everything so it's also about where you want to access it from, i've found that all the side sliding doors tend to be high top versions although we have some that have none, but are still high top, like mine currently is
you may also want to consider looking at those with the driver pack fitted, electric windows, mirrors hot screen and stuff as well as those with the higher spec parking sensors and air con
the one thing you will doubtless hear about is how easy the rear corner bumper ends are to lose, something a safe-t-bar on the rear stops from happening as soon as it's fitted

brilliant vans IMO hence my profile name - i have an 03 plate TDDI its done 148k. turbos can go on them if you dont idle the engine for a few mins after a long run, quite easy to repair though took me about 3 and 1/2 hours to replace mine. bought in 2007 still have it now and hoping to still have it in another 5 years time
