The injector problems I know of are with the MK3, as are the bushes, I don't think this is true on the MK4?

Also, I doubt the engine has a belt, more likely a chain, I should think.

OP, looks cracking

No these engines are belt driven.
Thats first port of call along with changing the back tyres. I got 1 Dunlop Sport max with about 2.5mm on it and another brand new cheapy budget tyre

I looked at audis but the spec was pitifull when you consider what you get for your monies with the Ford. Also the mondeo it without a doubt built just as well as an A4.

Cloth and I wanted high mileage.
Low mileage cars are false economy and generally worse condition.
A car thats done 100k on the motorway will be in a far better condition than a car that has done 30k of stop/start driving.

My Uncle bought a 2008 Citreon C5 on 24k and it's fucked

I'm shocked you've actually pulled the trigger and bought something.

I assume with that high a mileage at that age, it's been a rep/company car... and if that's the case, your theory of higher mileage cars being a safer bet might come unstuck.

Hope it works out for you in the end and you don't have to take it to your trusted garage guy.

Cheers,
Grant

Had one of these in the garage over the past week, 2008 58 2.5 turbo, 100k on the clock and the power steering pumps failed. Dont know if it's just this particular model or all though.

There is a filter in he power steering apparentley. They block up and can starve the pump/rack. Going to pick it up now

Yeah we were told that was the problem by an apparent 'Ford Technician' who said just remove the filter out the bottle and it'll be fine. The filters there to disperse the fluid sideways to reduce the pressure and not blow the cap off, as we found out the hard way

Try the 2.5 Turbo, they don't half shift for the size of the car

the nicest ones i have seen are the titanium sports i think
looks a tidy car even if a little bit of a strange choice for a 19 yr old

I work in the trade and I totally agree. Rather buy a newer car with high mileage than an old car with low mileage. IMO most issues on modern cars seem to be age rather than use/wear related.

Also with the huge price drop at 100k+ miles you have quite a bit of spare cash to spend.

Nothing wrong with rep/company cars, at least they get serviced regularly with no regards to cost. (depending on the company obviously)

First of all all engines in this shape mondeo have a belt

Some have a belt and a chain but it's difficult to determine exactly which has belt and chain, or 2 belts. This only applies to the 1.8 tdci however. & i think it's about 150k interval for the belt. It's also worth noting ford do advise the chain is replaced at 150k (i think) aswell. So don't assume cos it's chain it will never need attention. This only applies to the 1.8 remember but all other engines do have a belt!

I said this last week on here but the mk4 is a very underrated car, love the colour aswell! imho this drives better than a a4/3or 5 series of a similar age it really is a great great car!

& as for the milage, i wouldn't worry. the kind of person who has a mondeo as a company car probably doesn't drive it like he stole it and gets it serviced regularly as requires a reliable motor!

Ford Built as good as Audi (never in a million yrs lol )

for your monies and what you paid for that mondeo £5,900 + my 406 P/x you could have bought A4 S line 140/170 bhp these have all the gadgets

to be honest for what you paid for the mondeo was seriously over priced and they dont not hold their money ,they drop like a stone

see how much its worth next year , aleast with the Audi Sline hold their money and are lot more reliable car
