hi can some help me please i have a ford focus 16 tdci 2005 and have red light on dash saying engine faulty and now got engine sign on as well . took in and said it is pdf .? . exhaust they tested it and it came up on comp .said need flued top up is this true ? and is it easy fix cheers

 

Do you mean DPF?

If you can have it removed and take the car to a mapper to remove the warning light for it. Its a bag of shit and causes problems.

 

The Diesel Particulate Filter system uses a catalyst fluid to operate. The soot particles in the exhaust are collected in the filter and then burnt off into carbon dioxide at regular intervals when called for by the ECU. This is a dealer only top up system. I think the fluid is expensive, I've heard people talking of hundreds of pounds to get it refilled. Some manufacturers apparently need a complete tank as it's not refillable, you're looking at about Ł1200 for that by all accounts. Some systems don't use a catalyst fluid but rely on an engine cycle equivalent to a 40 mile non stop drive at over 40 mph. During this time, the engine overfuels in order to raise the exhaust temperature to about 600 C to regenerate. The catalyst fluid systems will regenerate at about 300 C so do not need the overfuelling cycle.

 

Fuck that! Get it removed!

Dont think its on the MOT test either so happy days.

 

DPF's seem to be problematic regardless of make and model. Missus wants a Fiesta Econetic and this is something I'm worried about

 

It's about an hour labour on a Focus to get the DPF fluid re-filled. Get a quote from your local Ford dealer. There is a special filling tool that is needed so doubt an independent garage will have the Ford specific tool.

tried but did not work fed up they should tell you these things as cannot afford 1200 so what next .....

 

What did you try?

 

Take it to a tuner, have the DPF removed and they can remove the part of the software that will flash up the fault.

Check out the Peugeot forums. There is a guy on there (think his name is BettySwollucks) who did a full guide on how to top it up yourself and where to get the fluid and tools cheep. The fluid usually needs topping up every 100k.

 

dpf fuel additive fluid is injected into the fuel everytime the filler flap is opened.over time the little tank over rear axle gets empty and needs refilling.fluid kit is about Ł120 but comes with all pipes and bottles to do it yourself then prob needs a static regeneration and codes erased

never had any idea about this happening no 1 told me love the car but putting me off now
