Default What's needed for 200bhp

Hi one of my mates has just bought a mercury grey escort rst. It's been along time since I had an rst and was struggling to remember what's needed for 200bhp as this is his target power. The car apparently has a cam and was rr'd at 161bhp.
If the car was standard except for a stainless exhaust and K+N filter what else would be needed to achieve 200bhp.

On a funnier note, he was told by a young lad in town "i can fit you a front mount intercooler and turn the fuel pressure up it will be good for nearly 400bhp!" I was thinking of taking the cossie to him, surely if a 1.6cvh will make 400 bhp what would a 2.0yb make with his engine tuning skills

A FMIC, a Stage 2 T3 (.36/50) and fingers crossed that the old MFI will fuel reliably for it.
Oh and a clutch to take the exrta power of course!

As for that young lads comments.... lol

theres a few like that around. a lad near my house is a champion bullshitter. from ''a mate with a golf with 500hp'' even though its a diesel auto!! his dad is the same though, got villas in spain, worked with ainsley harriot as a chef and even invented a beef he had with g.rhodes .
anyway, the son was talking about getting a civic, fitting a intercooling before eventually turbo'ing it. that is in the order he quoted btw, not just a play on what he said. bell......... end..............

All these years of tuners/owners tuning RST's, all the trial and error, all the time and money, and all they have to do is fit a a front mount inter cooler and 'turn up' the fuel pressure, and your knocking 400 horses

Few years back I was in Crete, weeks holiday. there was this Northern bloke there, salesman of some kind who had a Merc and started talking to me about cars. I kept schtum that I was into cars as well as I was on holiday and didn't want to be bored senseless all week talking about motors. Anyway, I'm trying to act interested but equally playing dumb when he tells me he used to have a 500hp M3. Interest perked up, so I asked what he'd had done to get that of power, expecting him to say it was turbo's or supercharged, cams etc and and his exact words were 'it's all chipped up'. I tried to ask on the QT what else had been done without giving away that I might know a bit more than I was letting on, but he insisted the chip did it....

I steered clear of him after that, unless it was to have a look at his wife's tits as she sunbathed topless as she did have a cracking rack.

Any more than 160 will eventually start pulling the front end of they are not designed to take that sort of power. A friend of mine was running 260 after about 12 months the front chassis legs where both stress cracked were they meet the bulk head. If you want that sort of power just buy an Evo they are built to take it.

I've not heard of that before mate, maybe he was just unlucky?! There are plenty of us running well into the high 200's and quite a few in the 300's too with no issues.

The first sign of damage was the door gaps started changing, were the wings meet the doors the top was almost touching with about a 10mm gap at the bottom. Maybe he was just unlucky. You could press on the scuttle panel and see the gap moving.

I'm guessing this car was suffering from rot around the front chassis legs as ive never heard of that with 160bhp... Like Karlos says, people are well into 280-300+bhp and they arent cracking! Altho Stu saying 330bhp cracking his is perhaps an eye opener, but then again thats only 2 examples out of 100s and im not going anywhere near 300bhp so i won't worry too much
