Default Ford Ka

Hi guys, im new here so please dont shout if i break any rules LOL

Basically i've been offered a brand spanking new zetec engine with road cams, uprated flywheel, clutch and throttle bodies. Does anyone know if this would fit into a Ka?

Ive been told that its a 1.4 zetec-s but i cant find any reference to ford making a 1.4 zetec s. I'm assuming its a typo until i hear otherwise. Any of you guys got any comments to make?

Grateful to hear what you think about the above engine and the possible conversion.

Cheers.

PS: The Ka is hopefully going to be at most shows this season with the Car Audio Centre so im hoping to get this done pretty soon.

Ford certainly DID make a 1.4 Zetec-SE engine it was fitted to the Mark 4 and some Mk 5 fiestas so THEORETICALLY it should fit into the Ka pretty well although I'd check the clearance of the throttle bodies

It's a dohc, multipoint FI engine producing [according to Ford] 89 bhp, god knows what that one would be producing tho? 140 bhp?

IN FACT, I sold a fezzy a couple weeks ago with the engine in [hence the knowledge ] and found a piccy of the engine:

This one had a K+N and some exhaust on it and sounded nice, was pretty lively too

Thanks for your reply.

Do you think this is worth doing to the Ka? I have everything else sorted, kit, ice etc. Its just the lump that lets the Ka down
The Ka is built on the Fiesta chassis, so ive been told so it shouldn't hurt to chuck this in. And for 550 quid the engine is a snap i'd say....

No probs mate! Think you should DEFFO do it for that price!!!!

You can't beat the sound of throttle bodies in my opinion if old skool wasn;t beckoning me, I think there'd be a throttle bodied zetec on the horizon

And don't forget, once it's done, it'll be a hell of a lot easier to go 1.6, 1.8 or even 2.0 zetec in the future

Are you a salesman by any chance? LOL

I'll give them a buzz tomorrow and see whats what. Do you think the conversion would be easy to do? A mate is a full time mechanic and has done conversions before. Im just wondering how much labour time it would take him to complete it.

Out of ALL the conversions, I think the Zetec is the easiest, think the most difficult will be mating up to a gearbox

P.S not a salesman

choose an engine that uses the ib5 gearbox. this allows the use of cvh engine, zetec engines aswell. a popular conversion is using the 1.7 lump out of the puma as this goes in with a little persuasion. speak to puma speed or puma build about this.

feel free to pm me any questions that you want to ask.

Ok.... You know when you look above your head and you see a conversation flying right over it? Thats where i am at this moment in time...

Ive spoken with Pumabuild and Pumaspeed, they're a bit dear for what im after at this moment in time. Although id like to have the Puma lump dropped in, i dont really fancy spending stupid amounts of money so soon after spending rediculous amounts on ICE. Call me tight if you want but i'd rather it be sensible.

I really haven't a clue about that gear box thing you guys mentioned. What does it mean? How do i find out more? Im lost.

LOL Fieldy, don't worry about it, most of it go's WAY over my head too

What you need to do is make sure the gearbox in the Ka will mate up with the new zetec engine you're getting, from what I can gather from afireinside sounds like the Ka uses the same gearbox anyway

BEST thing to do is give one of the tuners a ring, or even someone from Burton Engineering and they'll be able to give you a proper answer

Would say its DEFFO worth changing the brake set-up and probably get a fast road clutch as well

Let us know how you get on though, would love to see some pics when its done

You'll need to host them on a 3rd party site, like www.photobucket.com [which is what most people use]

Then post your pics in the Picture and Video Gallery Section:

Let us know when there' some up fella

Hi, this is my Ka with 1.6 Zetec-S engine. 2 days ago I had the engine removed for the crate 1.8 Zetec engine I bought.

Being a carburated engine, this might not be a perfect example to the EFI way of doing things. You'll need Fiesta Mk4/5 bell housing to fit your gearbox, a custom made engine mount (I used a Hyundai van's gearbox mount rubber), preferably a larger radiator; I was using the std. radiator with Vauxhall 2.0 cooling fan, I guess it would be more than OK in the UK, as she has a cooler climate than Turkey.

Throttle bodies or DCOE carbs won't find any space, even if you cut the front to open up space, you can't fit trompets or filters, better forget them I used upright Dellortos going up out of the bonnet. Being a stupid way of doing things, they looked and roared awesome when the scoop was removed (summer memories )... Anyway, the std. EFI inlet manifold will find its place with a simple bodywork.

With the salvaged engine over 90.000 mileage I had a healthy 95 hp @ 5975 RPM at wheels only with Haltech management and 45 Dellortos. After the cams, new jetting, balancing, racing con rods, headwork and 4 branch manifold it went up to a marvellous 133 hp @ 7625 rpm at wheels, which theorically makes about 158 hp @ flywheel (when bonnet scoop and filters removed).

Based on the amount you want to spend you will never get an RS turbo lump into your Ka. unless you know of a source of free engines, welding and labour.

I have a near complete full rsturbo conversion ready to drop into a Ka but your looking at close to 2k for it. Plus you will need boost hoses and an intercooler ontop of that.

i have the engine, gearbox, intercooler and turbo just waiting to go in. Have read that a FRST will go straight in, any comments?

Oh, and money is not a problem so its all good

Have asked a question on looms in another thread so i'll wait for an answer to that.

Hoping to get 200+bhp as soon as possible. Question is Interpro or Power Engineering?

Lets get it on!!!!!!
