For some reason I have a hankering to build a small bike engined car
, how would you go about getting the drive from the engine to the driveshafts?
Obviously you need to retain a diff in there somehow?

its much more fun in the back mate ,its quite easy really plenty companys have off the shelf parts to make them ,as grass tracking specials run bike engines but mainly in back. google it
Z cars minis look good but the parts they sell are expensive really, sure a lot could be self fabricated, they do sound good though, think you need a very light small car to get the best from a bike engine, the one I seen still had a short chain drive from the bike gearbox that connected to the rear diff,
Would be nice if you could connect the bike engine output shaft to the input shaft on the car gearbox.
You would get the 'normal' car driving experience with reverse gear and syncromesh for day to day driving along with a fully sequential 6 speed dog box for fun

The only problem with that is you lose the step down from the engine to the axle sproket.

No, you get the best of both worlds
You can leave the sequential box in a suitable gear and use the car box for day to day stuff / reverse.
Also you can stick the car box in a suitable gear and then use the sequential box if you fancy a thrash or a track day.
You would have 30 forward gears and 6 reverse

You would need to sort out a solenoid paddle shift or extra lever for the bike box and there would be extra frictional losses running two boxes.
