They're good cars but thirsty as hell. Rear arches and sills for rust. That's about it, hell of a lot of car for your money but as said your local petrol station will love you. You'll probably hear about ticking engines meaning head gasket's gone which isn't always true, it can be a leaking manifold.

Really like mine and the MPG is to be expected. Round town I get 27mpg and on a run on some A roads I get mid 30s

agree 100% rear arches are bad for rust, and really really thirsty, i stuck a tenner in to get home one night only about 13 miles and had to put more in when i got home lol

Mines been very reliable, early ones had iffy plastic water pump impeller, but easy change to metal one. Check rear boot/wheel well for water, leaks round rear lights. The irmc box which opens secondaries at about 3k/4k can get fried, so check you get kick on acceleration. Remote door lock solenoids play up, had 2 go on mine, but been fine last few years. Had a front suspension spring snap, but I was lucky it stayed in the shocker, but gave me excuse to lower it.

I've never worried about fuel consumption , it ain't great, but it's a V6 so expect it, no pain no gain!

They are great cars and cruise effortlessly.

Good car, cheap as chips. Thirsty as Hell and changing a blowing manifold gasket is a total cunt of a job, as with any aging Ford grot is to be watched for

I have one as my everyday driver and its never let me down. I agree they are thirsty cars but if you drive them sensibly they are fantastic. Alot of car for the money.

bought one last year, an estate nonetheless, ran it for the summer and did 4k miles in it. bought it with 100k miles and fsh. paid just over 200 for it sold it for four times that!

All i did was front discs and pads, 2 tyres, coil pack, n/s/f door latch and soldered in a new chip into the imrc control unit & then relocated it.

Great car, mpg not great but easily high twenties when pushing on at 90mph, which for a big car with a v6 engine didn't bother me at all.

Mine was a V plate with no rust anywhere, didn't know they were galvanised?

Would deffo have another.

Check for rust between the skirts and sills at the jacking points - there's a plastic lip on the skirt which traps water against the sill and rubs.

Had a normal Mondeo Mk2 V6 Estate and (driven sensibly) got about 30 - 40 mpg out of it. Had no real issues either.

However they seem to have a habit of blowing brake lines (t-piece at the rear). Maybe it's because we have loads of salt here and Mk2 Mondeos are usually quite rotten but I've personally come across 3 cases so far. Reasonably cheap fix too, so better have a look before the pedal goes to the floor...

I've had a couple of ST200 Hatchbacks and I think they're huge amount of car for the money. Providing you can live with an average mpg in the late-20s at best around the town then for a few hundred note, there's little that covers so many bases. Space, sound, reasonable grunt, equipment, comfort etc...

Cheers,
Grant
